Solved What triggers picking a name for "Your Gang?"

Hey folks - anyone remember if there's any special pre-reqs to Jammer letting you name your gang? I have three Outposts and three Vassals, and I feel like this should've happened already. It's kinda funny only having American or BoS flags, but....

I can't remember if there's something else I need to do, or have, or something. Wanted to revisit this highly entertaining quest chain, and dust off my memory of the mechanics to, as the Vault-Tec Rep would say, prepare for the future. On that note... I am running the current version of PANPC and have removed the safety interlocks which allows PANPC to assign AI profiles to both Jammer's Raiders and the settlement defenders, be they Minutemen or Gunners (and they respond differently!) and it just works*

* if by "just"
you mean "with a fair bit of testing and tweaking to find the right throttle levels and groups to enable," but oh mah gawd, 9 Raiders attacking a dozen entrenched Minutemen and it was GLORIOUS, both groups maneuvering dynamically and barking responses to events, calling for backup, and the occasional squad broken.

....but yeah. Baby needs a name, if anyone remembers how. Thanks!
 
So, 2 years too late, I've figured out why this randomly broke for people.

The "pick a name" topic was waaaay too far down the list, and it seems that topic list is processed in order top-down (thanks to llamaRCA for his telling me how it worked!). The conditions to allow it to happen are simply taking your first Outpost (not Vassal).

So, for players who were near Jammer right after or as they took an Outpost, and if it was early in the game before other Topics were valid, it would fire, the scene would play, a name would be picked.

However, if you did not trigger it soon enough, then the other Topics above it came into play, and the pick a name topic would never fire because it seems that every other dialogue would fire first.

Since the conditions for name are hyperspecific, I moved it to the very top of the Topics list, and loaded my save. Worked instantly. Jammer immediately went into the pick a name scene as soon as I activated him. Quest stage correctly moved to 501, and the Topics played out normally after that.

(Unfortunately, the flags seem to be broken - the global to unlock the one i chose never changed. I never even knew there WERE flags based on the chosen name until i saw them in the CK - when i originally played, i remember a generic Conqueror flag, the same as the map icon, thought it was cool, and didn't ever see an option to pick anything else. So there's more breakage, but i'll put it in its own post for posterity should i solve it).
