If you're interested in voicing characters for future quests in Sim Settlements, you've found the correct post!

What you need to have: A semi-professional recording setup able to pass our audio quality review. A slight hiss or bit of background noise is passable as our sound team will be able to clean up your recordings.

What we need from you: An audition reading from one (or multiple) of the scripts linked at the bottom. Your audition is your own, so feel free to play with the role and improvise if you feel like!

Files should be exported as 16 bit 44.1 khz mono .wav files. No editing at all please - we need raw recordings to make sure we'll be able to clean up the files to the quality level we need. Please email the samples to: simsettlements@gmail.com

Scripts: Click on the links below to get scripts for use in auditions.

    The Mayor

    The Mercenary

    The Raider

    The Ghoul

    The Trader

    The Mechanic

I'm very interested, KingGath, I'm a previous radio broadcaster and have a YouTube gaming channel. You can hear my voice at www.youtube.com/c/IzzySmithGaming , check out any of my Fallout 4 videos. I'll also email some try-outs ASAP. Have a great weekend!

Hey I want to apply, but I have to ask, are they gender specific, or can anyone apply so long as their mic is good enough?

I would love to apply but I lack the tools needed to make it happen.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions for a relatively cheap mic setup and software for something like this?

Most good mic setups don't come cheap, I got my XLRmic for like £20 or less but the audio interface is £90 so i can produce good sound quality. So far it produces excellent quality and sounds very professional.

Ill give it a go. Granted I dislike my voice so In my productions in other games I edit it so I sound a little older (I'm 27, but most of the time the voice acting was supposed to sound like it is coming from a Colonel or whatever)

My husband has done some voice over work and has shown some serious interest. He just has to load his recording software up. Of course, in my head, his voice is very lore breaking, since he's a Scotsman who speaks in received pronunciation, and one would think that most accents would be localized in a world with no significant travel across the wastes - but then you've got Cait and her Irish accent. So I guess it's all good. :)

@kinggath Do you have scripting for the Mr. Handy's?

Also, is it possible to ad-lib slightly with the scripts, to be able to get a better read for the character we envision, as long as we don't go completely off track?

Question: Do you want Celar Dialect free English or how about some foreign touch in the whole thing.
im almost Akzent free but sure can get back into old habits to give the whole think a touch of German, well suited for a Mechanic if you ask me.

@Matthew Watkinson The Mayor script would probably work well for Mr. Handy and you can definitely ad-lib a bit.

@DocDewrill as @Lynna pointed out, some of the characters randomly have accents, so we can probably work an accent in somewhere. Keep in mind, that those are just sample scripts, not necessarily the actual characters - we have dozens of characters that need a voice, those scripts are just some samples so we can get a feel for your style.

@chibievil - The scripts were written to be gender neutral. None of the scripts represent actual characters, they were just something we wrote to get a feel for your style. We have tons of characters to cast and don't want to give away all of the scripts!

Would a British Accent be of any interest? Quite deep male voice, I can link to some youtube videos I narrated privately if you want to quickly hear my voice, quite deep male english accent, quite neutral with no strong regional variation.

Thats fantastic; little unknown fact unless you are actively playing with the CK you might not know. The CK actually has the ability to make even the crappiest voice recordings "fit" into the game without sounding like pos $5 mic.

My wife and son are interested. My wife has never done this before, however she does have a lot of different voices she uses to be funny. Would you like multiple recordings of different voices for the parts?

Disagree strongly on this... Have you heard the voices in the Bounty Hunter mod!? (really awesome mod - but you can hear the sound quality differences between that and vanilla)

@Drokmar68 All up to you and the fam! As many as you like in whatever voices you think best.

@Eklipsa Something better than a built-in microphone, if you're unsure if your stuff is good enough, feel free to submit a sample in the format listed in the initial post, and we'll let you know if the quality will work or not.

If you're going to be picky, shouldn't you also be limiting the American accents to ones most likely found in the north east US? Wouldn't that also include, at the very least, a sprinkling of European accents, not just British? And wouldn't being located around MIT bring in immigrants from all over the world? Wouldn't it be more immersive to include all of the world's accents that Bethesda forgot about? Considering the already existing Vanilla VAs, would it really matter if the bulk of the VAs for Sim Settlement Story Hour were all over the place?

Well, if you ever need a horribly broken French accent, I got it. But it may make any line I would speak hard to understand.
