Two junk storage related questions

First, I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, and will junk storage units placed outside the settlement boundaries still function as normal?

Second, I tested this by shooting and throwing grenades at them, but I'm curious about the experience of other people and/or an official answer - can junk storage units be damaged during an attack? Asking because my current design requires thousands of units of junk and if I can incorporate the storage units into the settlement's outer walls without risking constant repairs after every attack, it'll enable a bit of double-dipping, as it were.

Probably, and IIRC they should be indestructible for now. I've been using them as part of the walls myself.

The junk storage I placed out of bounds was included in the total amount of storage. So, I'm guessing it's working.
