Came back to FO4 and Sim Settlements too late to enter the October contest (Sunshine is one of my favorite Settlements to build).
Have been bouncing between building 4 Settlements and Murkwater just happens to be one, so Ive decided to put more effort into working on it for the November Contest.
Good choice too, its a challenging site to build on.

Hi Everyone!
PyrateLV here presenting to you my November City Plan Contest entry: Swamp Life-Murkwater
SWAMPLIFE.jpg

A little background about me first. Im a Settlement building fanatic. Its pretty much the only thing I do in FO4 anymore (Ive played the game through 3 endings). Im not at all interested in 76
Its my relaxation at the end of a long work day. (with the occasional Stealth/Sniper Incendiary Rounds Skull Popping Hunt. :D )
I build them up, tear them down and start a different one (I think Ive built Starlight around 6 times now. Sunshine and Greygarden 4), so Sim Settlements, Kinggath and this community are a god send.
Been following and enjoying everyone's work with Sim Settlements since almost the beginning.
Now with the City Plan sharing feature, I thought I might be able to build something half decent others might like. Im not a pro at building, but I thought, WTH Ill give it a shot.

I wanted to thank Kinggath for such a good challenge too. County Crossing and Murkwater. Ooff! 2 turnips to try and create an edible meal from.
In all my builds I never built on these 2 because the sites are just so terrible (IMO)

Though I actually started working on Murkwater about a week before it was announced for the Nov. contest. I had gotten inspiration for what to do there while working on another Settlement build, so it was fortuitous that I was already working on it.

I was tempted to just go balls out for my first City Plan build and throw everything I could into the site, but eventually decided to scale that way back and be more simple and basic to start out.
I tried to leave a fair amount of "negative space" for other players to add their own touches later should they so choose.
"A simple gumbo and not some fancy Diamond City Stew"
I tried to go more organic with the site. Utilizing the natural terrain and flora.
I made it a small self sufficient close-knit Community and not really a "Provider to the Commonwealth"
"We takes care of our own out here in the Marshes"
Mostly using SS plots with a few vanilla structures.
11 Settlers. 1 Leader, 4 Farms, 3 Industrial (Power, Water, Scrap), 1 Martial, a Roadhouse Bar(/kick) and a Lounge.
(*possible room for an additional 1-3 more Settlers with-in the site boundaries)
It has the basic Amenities - Armor and Weapons benches, Stove and Chem Station. Power Armour Station
Id say 85-90% of the build site is utilized. Default Settlement Build Limit. No Increase.
It is *HIGHLY* recommended that those using this City Plan have the same SS Add-ons I used as this build is Thematic and specific Plots are needed to make it "work" (Other plots might not fit the location and clip and/or over-lap into other parts of the build or just look completely out of place)
Designers Choice is Recommended. (I will list the Add-ons/plots recommended if need)
Also, Player scrapping of anything on the site (Trees, vehicles, etc) is discouraged as some of it is also integral in the final build.
All scrap (Player added) will need to be brought in from off site. (or turn City Needs off)

Thats pretty much it for my Introduction
*Site Pics coming in a few as I choose, crop and clean up the 10 pics Ill use (out of around 60 taken). Its really hard to get a great screenshot of a place that its ALWAYS Hazy, Raining and/or Dark

If your city plan is as detailed as your introduction, then i'm really excited to have you join these contests going forward! Can't wait to see it!

Its a bright new morning here at Murkwater and the rain seems to finally be stopping.

A shot from the Front FT position. Day is winding down and it looks like its starting to rain again.

One last night shot. I really like the lighting on the farms. Plus I was able to capture a lightning strike.

I will upload my Level 3 Final Save in the next few days.
Thanks for your consideration.

Wicked good!
I enjoy your decorations; it's something I've never been confident in doing myself. I stick to bare bones type stuff, structures only but your decorations look like they were born there.
The lightning strike pic is a keeper!

Thanks. I tend to stare at empty spaces alot while flipping through the Decorations trying different things to see what fits.

Wow.

This is fantastic.

I really like how you worked with the trees, rather than chopping them down. It really reinforces the swamp atmosphere.

Thanks. Ive been trying to work with the base items in a settlement and not completely scrapping everything and starting clean as I usually do.

I agree, this looks great! The winding walkways between the foggy ponds really have atmosphere. And I see you found an exciting new way to roast your coffee.

Thanks. If I found a new way it was purely by accident as Im not sure what your seeing I did..
I wanted to do something simple and fitting to the area. As I built, I let the site "speak" to me and tell me what should go where. I started and just let it grow naturally

I think I tried most every SS plot to see how it would work in this Settlement.

Now if I could only learn the Creation Kit better so I can build Addons. I have a couple ideas that would really work with this type of site and theme.

Magnificent.
I can't make a smooth video either. I believe an XBox controller would help, or adjusting mouse sensitivity. I have tried neither of those but thought I would mention it.

I believe that we are constrained to a 5 minute walk through video for the contest.

Ah. Didnt realize that. Hmm. not real good at editing video (as you can see I can barely make one)
Might have to go make another one thats a bit shorter.
Ill try, but Im so busy right now. I havent even started to break my Settlement down into the lower build levels yet.

The lower build levels take a LOT of time. I really underestimated that for my first entry last month. It's mostly swapping out walls for wholier (?) versions and rerouting power as structures with pylons and conduits are replaced.

Plenty of time left though.

I can't wait to get my hands on your build when it's released. I'm excited to explore it.

Since this build was my first attempt at a Sim Settlement City Build AND Contest entry I kept it relatively simple, so it should break down easily. Its not a complex site at all. No fluff.

Now the ones Im working on for Red Rocket and Starlight are much different stories.

You might want to check about the video. The comp rules currently say we're only allowed to put up a maximum of 10 pics and no video to support each entry. I think the judges just ask for one once they have narrowed down the contenders to three.

Ill remove it for now
