Discussion The Settlement Recovery Procedure

Was just given a radiant quest via Radio Freedom:

That is what i write at the end Go to your Settlement wait a little bit to let the ref fix then save inside the settlement go out of fallout to the desktop start fallout new load your save and you get direct the Quest.If you make that now you get the Pipboy entry that Fix the missing entry.
As you see you get exact the same REf with the identical Worckshop id only without Bugs.The Bugs are as i write wrong or old entry if you look the Length change a lot so the fix cancel all the Old Entries and write only the new and actual Entrys:).That mean not the cell get Corrupt but the REFR and if you refresh it the entire Cell get Fix.

The RefID should stay the same since that is hard-coded in the .esm file. The script links the hardcoded RefID to the workshopID , which is generated on the fly, when it adds the workshopID to the "Workshops" list. That link between hard-coded RefID and workshopID is the data stored in "WorkshopMasterList", from what I'm gathering.

While I'm not sure anyone knows for sure, the ChangeForm REFR you deleted is likely where the game stores the generated variables that the workshop script attaches to the workshopID, and by extension the RefID. I bet the file size increase confirms that the old data is still there, and new data was at least partially generated and assigned to the RefID in it's place. Thus, it is still partially registered as it would be when owned, but the deleted ChangeForm REFR included the ownership status variable. Just a guess, though. *shrug*

I know everyone is very excited about this as a solution to all our ills, but it still doesn't feel quite right to me. I would caution people against it, simply because the scripts which run the workshop system weren't set up to deregister and reregister like this from everything I've seen. The issues this could cause aren't necessarily things you'd see in-game, at least for quite a while. However, to avoid further dissention I'm going to leave it at that and bow out of the conversation here. Good luck ya'll! I hope it works out ok. :good

I would *TOTALLY NOT* recommend it LOL. :)

And I have the old game to go back to, anyway. That one worked with the #2 fix. I would try this only as a #3 "the game is already nuked" option.

Edited for better clarity LOL

I use the 2 Fix with my Save first and it don't work but make my CTD even worster on a much bigger Zone and so there was only the option Forget your Game and Save and start new as your Cell is corrupt.Even maybe my Fix can make some Trouble in the Future or not, that we don't know its always better then to start again from the beginning.

For that to see if it right we must see what happen after you lose a Settlement for low Moral and regain it after back to be true near in the same Way.The only different is you lost it before full.The Settlements have the Code to get lost for low Moral and become again full neutral .get Retake with an radiant Quest after they was lost.change even Faction more then 1 time in all case the REFR must be write new or get Change.

Ya'll messing with a VERY fragile system.. BUT... I have popcorn and look forward to the ending. :)

I like popcorn. "A LOT!

My all-time favorite snack. Perfect for a night of fallout 4 gaming!

hummmm, yummm!

After 2 days with migraine, I will get a chance to play with tonight for an hour or two and see how things go.

Currently no issues. I slaughtered the gunners in Gunners Plaza (stealth builds FTW!) and am now building up Egret Marina settlement.

Way too early for final judgement, of course.

Not a good sign at all, this is at the Robotics Disposal Ground:

However, it might have been something else which triggered this (I recently had an issue with another mod). I will revert to an earlier save and see if this happens again.

Reversion to an earlier save fixed this issue. I'll have to re-take Egret Marina, but wthwthwth.

That is a vanilla bug. Happens in several places, Thicket Excavations is the worlds worst for me. Leaving & returning usually fixes it.

An update, I’ve gone from L82 or 83 to L94 with this fix in place. During this time I have:

* visited every settlement in quick succession
* done some fairly serious building
* started up a settlement
* collected every single bobblehead
* collected all but two perk magazines

So, while not recommended - more testing is required - the process seems to be worth more investigation.

Considering Sanctuary is starting to bug out bad for me I might just make an extra save and give this a try just to see how it goes. Hopefully something useful comes from this find!

For me the same all Work.Nothing is missing Quests (Radiant) Start all or go on.Building is possible near infinite no CTD any more the only thing that get problems with 6 Time Build Limit use are the FPS that goes down under 20 FPS sometimes but a Settlements remain Stable.
Zimonja was before always CTD with a SS City now i have the Complex City there and its level 3 + many manual Build things that alone was over the Build limit and the City work like a charm.
Hangmansally where i don't was able to not go any more in the entire Zone for CTD is full fixed not 1 CTD any more.

So I tried this with Sanctuary and it seems to have solved all my scrap and workshop related crashing (for reference I do use Scrap Everything, I've tried to live without it and I can't). I have successfully fast traveled there a couple of times now and while it does take a while to load that is not out of the norm for me.

I did notice a bit of an issue with this method however, or perhaps a rather obvious thing to NOT do. The first save I tried this on I was saved in Sanctuary itself and when I tried to load up that save I got stuck in an infinite load-screen. I tried it a couple of more times to make sure it wasn't just a random glitch but no, it's not. Second save I tried it on I was saved at The Castle and everything went smoothly with that one. So long story short, make sure you're not at the workbench/settlement you're trying to edit, it probably won't go well.

Interesting thing I did note with the botched attempt however is that I could hear the ambient sounds of the settlement in the background but still had the load screen, and eventually I had to kill Fallout 4 with the Task Manager. It wasn't unresponsive, and it didn't CTD, both things I would have expected from doing this wrong.
