Screen Shot Guide

Taking Screenshots

- Press F12 or the Print Screen key to take a screenshot
- Depending on which key you used, your screenshots will be stored in one of two places: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\ (these are both based on the default install directory - if you installed Steam someplace else, these won't be accurate)

Useful Tools

To hide the HUD
, bring up the console and run the command: tm (you can restore it again by typing tm and then pushing enter - though the console itself will be hidden, so just trust your typing!)
To switch to Free Camera, bring up the console and run the command: tfc This will let you fly around freely and get great shots. For extra fun, use tfc 2 which will freeze time while you do it! (you can leave free cam mode by running tfc again)
To freeze time, bring up the console and run the command: tgp This is useful if you are already in Free Camera and decide you need to freeze time after the fact.

Artistic Screenshots

While looking cool, screenshots with a lot of sun glare or nighttime shots might make it hard for judges to see what's going on in your design. So use them with care.

Looking for Ideas?

If you need some ideas for angles, or what kind of stuff you should showcase in your screenshots, check out our Settlement Showcase section! Many authors have been showing off their builds since the forums were launched and many of them have done a fantastic job at showing off their designs.

One other usefull bit.. you can also get aerial shots of your settlement if you are in build mode and using Workshop Plus. Set up the WP with a hotkey, so you can get airborne. I would advise setting the speed relatively low untill you get the hang of it. How to do all that is in the docs for WP. Once you get into the air, you can fly to the extents of the settlement/ You can console enter TM to remove the menu, but you will see some coloring where the borders are. Beyond that, you will exit build mode as usuall. :cool Hitting TM again will get your menus back.
