Suggestion, Please stop auto assign for new settlers

This is not something which is controlled in the menus. It doesn't matter if auto assign is turned off, new settlers tend to be automatically assigned to plots. What I mean is, let's say you send a settler from one settlement to another and there is a free plot which is unoccupied, it may auto assign the settler to that plot. Same goes for new settlers which pop up in a settlement. I have auto assign turned off and I want to be able to assign my settlers each time without them being auto assigned because they are new settlers. The reason is, I tend to disable/markfordelete settlers I don't want and this can actually mess up the plots because if they are assigned to a plot then even when you disable/markfordelete them they are still assigned to the plot!

Manual assignment and manual upgrades could use a good look. On Xbox at least manual upgrades flat out don’t work. No matter what it tells me I lack ressources even if I have them. If I turn the plot to auto-upgrade and then refresh it instantly upgrade and then I can turn it off again as a workaround but it’s still annoying.

I can't remember where this was discussed.... OK, a little googlefu for you...

The only way manual upgrades at the asam work for me is to have auto pay plot upgrade costs turned off, and auto upgrade basic plans and auto upgrade branching plans turned on.

This works for me... on PC... Sorry, I don't have an Xbox....
Hope this helps.

In my experience in quite a few playthroughs with different SS2 versions, the SS2 manual assignment option does nothing. This is for both MCM and Holotape setting. I have all auto assignment turned off in SS2 and WF.
  • If I assign a NPC to a non SS2 object, SS2 will assign that NPC to a plot if I have an unassigned one.
  • Any spawned NPCs will be assigned to a plot if there is one available.
  • SS2 frequently plays musical chairs with assignments.
  • Sometimes a single NPC will be assigned to multiple plots. (Seems 90% of the time this is the multiRes plots where one NPC will take an 'occupant' slot of every multiRes plot in the settlement)
Again, this is with all auto assignment off. I'm running a bare bones load order so it shouldn't be a mod conflict.

I am not seeing some of the issues you are reporting about msalaba, but there is obviously issues with assignments so hopefully we can get them looked at. I would really like for there to be no auto assignment if I have auto assignment off. New settlers shouldn't be auto assigned unless I have auto assign turned on.

I can at least add to the discussion, that I frequently see settlers being assigned to multiple job plots. I cannot pinpoint it directly, but it seems to me, that a Person can be assigned to a second job when they are not assigned to a home plot, but a vanilla bed for example. Manual assignment seems to be working fine for me on PC.

I confirm I have the same problem : with autoassignment 'off' new settlers (even moved from another settlement) are auto-assigned to any free plot that exists.

I have seen it also happen with existing settlers instantly claiming a free spot when a Training plot upgrades, even if it isnt the stat their job requires - meaning another 5 minutes wrestling with manual assignments to get all the Farmers on the END plot and not half the Guards.

Additional note to try to help whoever's got the job of dealing with this: I just had a generic Settler, freshly spawned from a Beacon, get autoassigned to an Agricultural and a Residential (multi-home) plot, production went up as it should've... but poking him with the Vigomatic showed him as still being unemployed and homeless - and the HUD Meters reflected that.

I have the automatic assignment problem too. Auto-assignment is turned off in SS2's and Workshop Framework's options.
Any new settler just gets instantly assigned to one of the empty residence and employment plots. If a building plan has been selected (and paid for) the plot then starts building. Otherwise the settler is assigned, but nothing happens until a plan is chosen.

Steps to reproduce:
1: console command: player.placeatme 00020593 (Spawns a settler)
2: In Workshop Mode send settler to the current settlement

The settler gets instantly assigned to a house and work place.

I have noticed that any settler/npc assigned an 'occupant' slot of a multiRes plot, when hit with the Vit-o-Matic it will read as 'homeless.' I assume the code is missing the new "bed" flag used by these new plots.

Is the settler that showed jobless assigned to some job that allows multiple settlers/npcs to be assigned? Might be the same issue.

I feel sorry for those who have to try and fix this. There has to be hundreds of thousands of lines of code in hundreds of scripts running all these systems. How the heck do they remember what's where??? 150 page TOC??? /rant

Now that you mention it, yeah, their "job" they took was also as an additional worker on a 3x3 Agricultural.
