Solved SS1 vs SS2 for resources

Hi folks,

I've been using SS2 for a while on a new save, but it took me a while to realise that basically all the resources generated there only go into virtual storage. So if I'm understanding this correctly, it means that building up settlements using SS2 isn't actually going to aid my playthrough in terms of generating useful junk, whereas in SS1 with the Industrial Revolutions plots, I could generate specific resources like oil.

Am I understanding this correctly and is this why SS1 is still in use by many people? Or am I wrong about SS2? I basically want to start a new playthrough and need to decide between SS1 and SS2.

Thanks in advance :)

Your are correct on both counts.
SS1 did not have a virtual resource system at all... all output was usable by the player.
SS2 the vast majority of settlement production goes into the virtual system that is only used to build, maintain and upgrade SS2 plots.

The other major difference is the quest line (story and NPCs) in SS2.... there are no quests / storyline in SS1.

I really enjoy both, but they do play out very differently as far as '"helping" the player accumulate resources.

Hope this helps
