Question SS Newb Questions

Hi there. I played F4 for 2 years, last time seriously in 2017 and decided I was overdue for a replay. Then I discovered Sim Settlements. Wow am I impressed if it works (I assume so). :) Anyway I've started watching the videos, will be using the City Planner feature and here is my first question.

I'm in Sanctuary, I created the CP desk placed it in the middle of the street, assigned Codsworth as City Planner, did the fly around the city thing, and when I landed the City Planer desk is missing. I remember it was mentioned that this desk would probably move. I've looked through some houses and have yet to find it. So I thought I'd ask. I have a bunch of scrap I connected that I want to donate.
Any pointers? Thanks!
I'm sure more questions will be forth coming. :D

Update: Ok, found it in one of the houses! :)

City Leader requirement and City Plan are two different items. You can turn off the setting requiring a leader and still use a city plan.

And oh boy yeah I have had some really interesting things happen when using city plans and building my own bits only to have the city upgrade - haha - right over or through what I put in.
I definitely would not place any containers in a plot but I do use personal storage - usually a room I put together with crafting and what not in it. Working around what the settlers build is part of the fun though especially since some of the city plans do things I never would have thought of.
My impression is that if the City Planner is removed, that the auto development in that settlement according to the plan stops. So how would you keep it going? Thanks!

Question 9- Regarding Tax collection in sim settlements. I'm getting these messages that I have taxes to be collected by visiting the settlement.
This blurb (https://simsettlements.com/web/wiki/index.php?title=Taxes/en) says: When taxes are collected, you will get a notification telling you how much money you earned in total. This will be displayed as dollars, but is collected in caps - the message is meant to look like it's coming from the software which is pre-war (ie. before caps were a currency). The caps are deposited into the workbenches of settlements that have plots in them.

Maybe I'm not understanding, but I don't see any caps in the workbench. I've looked at it's inventory and can't find anything listed as "caps" or "dollars". Is it just automatically given to you, in your cap total? I have not been paying enough attention to see if that is what is happening.

They'll be in the misc. section of each workbench's inventory. It's possible that all settlements don't make deposits at the same time. Keep checking back.

Oh, I'm having trouble finding building pieces (foundations, walls, etc) in the workshop. Do the mods SS or RotC remove the ability for you to erect a building on your own?
Thanks!

What category are they?

Structures.

Neither SS nor RotC remove the Structure tab.

Have you removed any building mods or mods that make changes to the workshop menu? Missing tabs usually result from doing so.

Universal missing menus fixer

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure. I ended up removing some of the older mods from when I first started playing, which did not help, but then I found searching:
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22205?tab=description and amazingly this worked! :D I'll save your link too if it happens again.
It may not be that uncommon of a problem.

Workshop Menu Missing Tabs Fix
That is a wonderful mod by a truely special author.

From the description page:

"Why?
Because I needed it.
I deleted a neon mod without reading the description of the file (bravo) and lost the "power" tab of the workshop."

I like it when people admit their mistakes and then make tools to help other people who make the same ones.

I've never used this one. But when I deleted Snap n Build (I really liked that mod, I must have ditched it back then to make room for SS) from my load order a long while ago and lost menu tabs, I used Universal Missing Menus Fixer (it was available on the Xbox) to repair the damage I wrought.

I'm glad your back in business.

one thing to add, if you have simsettlements, then you are, or at least should be, using the SMM addon.

In the SMM addon there is an option that can rescue a broken workshop menu from incorrectly removing mods. you can use that - it works like an absolute champ and saves you having to download another mod to do the same thing.

It looks like this is still an issue with Finch Farm: https://simsettlements.com/site/index.php?threads/finch-farm-bugs-for-rotc.2528/. Is says I don't have privileges to post in the bug forum.

Can't find the City Planner desk. It's moved somewhere if it exists at all. Turning on the City Planner desk in Tools (I think) does not reveal the desk either. Maybe its not there.

My question is, can I just plunk down a new City Planner desk to control the settlement? Can that cause complications in the development of a settlement?
Thanks!

there are addons that include especial npcs that can be selected as city leaders, so you don't have to pick a companion
Is this a mod associated with SS? Are you talking about making them companions, or just assigning them to the city planning desk? Could you point me at it? Thanks!

Also if you have to many settlements under development using RotC, is it possible to cause complications or kill performance in the game. I've noticed in Santuary, that I get more crashes to desktop than anywhere else. It's not like it's happening all the time, but one night I had 3 crashes in the vicinity of Santuary, which was the first settlement I put under RoTC control, I also have Abernathy Farm and Red Rocket being developed with RotC.

Having more than one CP desk shouldn't cause problem afaik. It is possible that the city plan itself, as it upgrades, may build over anything (including an extra desk) you manually put down.

In this so called triangle of death things can be trouble. The pros around here would caution about building and running city plans in all three at once. This triangle of death thread is an essential read: https://www.simsettlements.com/site...sanctuary-abernathy-farm-and-red-rocket.6964/ as well as its discussion thread: https://simsettlements.com/site/index.php?threads/understanding-ctds-triangle-of-death.6870/

@uituit 's excellent Junktown add-on: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26107 also gives you extra, non-companion, options to choose as leaders, including 2/3 of the Abernathys, 1/2 of the Finches, and 3/5 of the Quincey Five.

OK, I'll put Red Rocket on hold and let the other two proceed. Santuary is showing at 100% to move to stage 3, but it has not yet switched over to completion status. My understanding is that it is finished at that point, stage 3? This Triangle of Death, (I'll check out that link) you mentioned is this just a phenomena with that area and 3 close proximity settlements, or as a rule, should you not have more than 2 settlements going at once across the entire commonwealth?
