Some good Mods for next Playthrough

For your fast start needs, https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/4050534 SKK Fast Start New Game is brilliant. No problems caused, from character creation to outside the vault in as long as it takes to customise your character.
Scrap that Settlement on Xbox is also excellent - allows you to scrap the annoying rubbish but not key components of settlements. Doesn't break precombines either apparently.

Other than that - friendly radstags (cos I don't want to kill every radstag I walk by), Deadlier Deathclaws (because they should be terrifying), Private Area Markers (so when I build my house as part of a city plan or settlement, I don't come back to find every settler hanging out in there, even with the door locked), NPCs Travel (obv, more life) SKKs Random Encounters (but toned down to minimal options - just the odd spawn for more life), Immersive Fallout - Movement (stops you being the speed of a car round the map, feels more natural), More Clothing Textures (adds excellent variety using in game standards - brilliant mod).

Another couple mini-tweaks I was reminded of while rebuilding my load order today:

Adds Radiation (and optionally Poison) Resist to Ballistic Weaves.

Lets you actually use the Automatron Robo-modding on the bots that live at Graygarden. Works great with that mod of pra's that lets you improve the SPECIAL Stats of robots for better SS2 Plot work. (note that the Graygarden Bots keep their animation-packages of tending the crops there even if you delete them)

Oh, and I forget if I mentioned this one yet:
Gives The Gunners some mashup/retexture outfits to make them look a bit more like the mostly-organised militarised force they are described as. (grab the "NPC Leveled List Integration" thing under 'mods requiring this file' as well) and marginally tweaks their 'combat difficulty' (by making them more durable) to keep them distinct from how squishy Raiders are. Only real issue I have with it is that most of the outfit pieces can be Scrapped for probably more materials than they should - a single skirmish with a squad of them will usually net you enough Ballistic Fiber to add Weave to your own outfits.

There are a bunch that I can either take or leave, but there's honestly only two that NEVER get removed from my load order anymore.
Heather Casdin companion and Companion Ivy.

Most people already know about Heather, but Ivy is an amazing follwer mod with some very well thought out and executed quests added in. And she also has some hilarious interactions with the vanilla chars, like Preston and Sturges. It's best to get her very early in the playthrough though, I tend to get her as a follower almost as soon as I step out of the vault.
Ivy is much more than she seems at first. She is a permanent addition to my load order. Her backstory is as awesome as it is tragic and ties in directly to the main story. Her combat skills are second to none. The only time I ever dismiss her is when a quest forces me to use a different companion, and as soon as that quest is done, it's back to Ivy. I, quite simply, will never play FO4 without her again.

I have always used Heather, but I could not get past the robotic voice in Ivy5.x so waiting for 6 to come out.

Ivy has good reasons for having the robotic voice (she's lucky to be able to speak at all), considering what happened to her. It just seems like her normal voice to me now. I'm glad you're willing to give her another shot with 6.0. I doubt we will be disappointed.

Aside from SS2, "Live Another Life" is my 2nd pick. Instead of going through the intro again, you can choose to skip it. Character creation is faster and you pick one of many backgrounds for that character which give you some starting gear. It doesn't lock you into anything.
Suggestions:
My 3rd pick would be "Wasteland Codex" by the Storyteller.

Another reason I did not go with Ivy till 6.x is that right now she can be the only companion. I will always have Heather as a companion and starting to really grow on Darlene. Ivy 6.0 will allow multiple followers.

Couple more I'm trying out again at the moment, still mostly in the vein of "more variety without going overboard".

I haven't SEEN any issues with having those and SS2 running together yet, and I can't imagine there will be, unless the Raiders one puts some in places SS2 would use...

Also in the interests of trying to make combat even more brutal, I found this (which BASICALLY replicates something I'd been half-planning on making myself):
Not 100% sure about some of the changes it made, but it's worth a shot just to spice combat up a bit more, even on Survival you turn into an unkillable murder-machine quite easily.

Hi,
Good Question!
Mainly, I just have to use…
CVC
PLACE EVERYWHERE
KURO TAB
GREASE RAT GARBS
CLASSY CHASSIS OUTFITS (several)
PIPE GUNS ARE STILL GUNS
HEATHER CASDIN
CBBE & LOOKSMENU
ELIS ARMOR COMPENDIUM
CARRY WEIGHT MOD
CRUDE BLOWBACK
LONGER POWER LINES

Question: Is there any scrapping mod that is (reasonably) safe?

Scrap everything does more than performance hits. Have fun loosing you 100 hour plus save when Scrap everything blows it up. SE is a ticking time bomb that WILL blow up in your face. Basically you are choosing to start a game with every chance to blow it up by choosing to use StartMe up and Scrap everything.
Hello,
I, too am frustrated by all of the stuff you can’t scrap in the vanilla game….the bushes alone make it difficult to place plots without them growing through your newly placed home.
Is there ANY scrapping mod that is reasonably safe?
(I currently use scrap everything, and scrap not quite everything….and I do get a lot of CTDs at settlements even earlier in my playthroughs)

The "approved" ones (or at least the closest thing to such a concept) are mentioned a couple times very early on in this thread, those being these two by the same author:

A lot of us run those, and Whisper is around in the Simsettlements community ("Walled Gardens" is a damn nice plot addon pack too), so those ones are pretty well trusted.

Thank you!
I think I’ll try the Clean My Settlementmod….also, I DO use the walled gardens mod plus practically every other SS2 add on….even your municipal power mod.

I removed scrap everything, installed clean my settlement. New play through… no other changes. I am not sure I set up load order correctly, though. it scrapped well in sanctuary and red rocket but I didn’t notice shorter grass. Then concord…trying to enter the museum caused CTDs repeatedly. Removed clean my settlement… new playthrough….no CTD at museum.
Advice?

Anything that changes messes with or does anything with precombines I place close to the bottom same with scrapping mods. But if you have something crashing in a specific area I’d look at any mods that affect that area ss2 changes it by adding stuff , clean my settlement doesn’t change that specific area but areas close by.

plus most all of us use that mod with no crashing in that area so I’m guessing it’s another mod effecting the area.

I had started to try this out in a "remove all* other gun mods" save, after seeing Dak cover it the other day:
(with the patch to make it also apply to the Ithaca37 because why is there no pump-action in the base game)

Guess Water won't be a problem for a while...

I'm really enjoying the "Subversion" mod (Institute-Railroad alliance) as of lately. Finished game, broke nothing. And of course, Tales from the Commonwealth and Settlers of the Commonwealth. "M's Abominations" is an awesome mod, though some things it adds are really painful for the performance. Heather's an awesome companion and unique (from what I can tell) as a secondary companion so you can have her and whoever else you want. Really adds more drive to the main quest and how you go on about it.

There are a couple different patches that fix some performance stuff with tales from the commonwealth or 3dnpc just not sure if they are available on Xbox or not.

This is the one from nexus.

Settlers of the Commonwealth is even better when you go in and change their specials to. Match their personality better. Seven is a gun slinging bad ass. Have you heard the one about the Calendar thief? If only I could DM a game for Pumpkin.

I used to play with BETTER LOCATION DAMAGE (BDL) and NPC TRAVELS. Do these get along well with SS?

With those mods I always think twice before going out in survival. BDL adds difficulty, and NPC Travel adds a lot of random encounters.

NPCs Travel definitely works fine. Not sure about Better Locational Damage, but I doubt it causes any significant problems.
