[Solved in 2.0.0g] How To HQ Quest Will Not Start

HowToHQDoesn'tWork

At the end of "Moving Day" Jake tells me to come to the Plaza and talk to him. The quest completes but the next quest, How To HQ, will not start. I went to the plaza and everyone there has no dialogue. I reloaded a save and there was no change. I closed and reopened the game and no change. I even tried to force the quest to start in the console with "startquest SS2C2_Sirick_MQ24" but this did not work either. I can start the quest after How To HQ with "startquest SS2C2_Sirick_MQ25" but of course this means missing How To HQ and will probably cause issues with my save later down the line.

Try running the command:

sqv ss2c2_mqmaster

If that shows Enabled: No, State: Stopped - then the issue is likely a loose workshop script or another mod with a workshop script caused Workshop Framework's startup to fail, which then caused issues with SS2's startup since it relies heavily on WSFW.

You can try force starting mqmaster, but my guess is that you are going to run into issues again down the line and would recommend you instead go back to a save before you installed Chapter 2, wait a few minutes, and confirm mqmaster is running before you continue in the save - if it fails to start, you'll want to dig into this workshop script issue to find out what's blocking startup.

The most common issue is people having Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch after WSFW in their load order, you'll want to make sure Workshop Framework comes after the Unofficial Patch, so that its workshop scripts take priority.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I just ran the command and it says Enabled: Yes, State: Running. It also says Current Stage: 0 and Priority: 50 if that helps. I'll try leaving my game open for a while to see if it's just a case of script lag, but other than that I'm personally a bit stumped.

Yeah, I've got the same response, Though I just updated chapter 2 and sim settlements 2 to 2.0.0e

Ok, updated to 2.0.0e and loaded a save from before Moving Day starts. I went through same as before and Jake asked me to come to the plaza. How To HQ still doesn't start and according to the command the script is still enabled and running.

Same thing for me when running the command. I guess we'll have to wait for a hotfix

After Moving Day is completed, How to HQ should start immediately. Can you try running the command:

sqv ss2c2_sirick_mq24

If that shows Enabled: No, try running

startquest ss2c2_sirick_mq24

Then run the sqv command again to see if anything changes. Either way, can you send your save file? I'd like to investigate why MQ24 could fail to auto-start - I can't find anything obvious looking at the quest config.

I had executed startquest command and no result. I send you my latest save, hope it will help.

I ran the first command and it showed Enabled: No so I then ran the second comamnd. The sqv still shows Enabled: No.

I've uploaded 2 save files as I'm not sure which would be more useful to you: One from the Vault 81 entrance cell before Moving Day has finished, and one outside when How To HQ is suppose to start. Here's the drive link. Word of warning though, I do have more than 20 mods which the troubleshooting guide says is a no-no for sending save files. I have run a bunch of compatibility checkers and patchers to make sure all of my mods play nice, but they may or may not be the cause of this issue.

Just got a chance to download and try Hotfix 2.0.0g; quest has started as intended now. Thank you very much for the help.
I am a bit curious as to why Stodge being dead affected the script for How To HQ, but at least it's fixed now.

When an NPC is used in a dialogue scene, and they might not be there, you have to flag them as optional or the dialogue scene will sit and wait for them to show up. Several scenes in Chapter 2 use Stodge or Hubert or Theresa, depending on your choices during Who Can ASAM, so the scenes all involve Stodge as an optional character - but we forgot to check in that optional setting.

I've run into a similar problem, followed through this post. I'm currently running on ver. 2.2.5 for SS2 and How to HQ doesn't start after Moving day ends. I've tried using console commands to force start and checked sqv to see if it enabled, it did not. I was wondering what I can do if anything

Generally if a quest won't start from console, that means something has been deleted or disabled that the quest is relying on. So most likely some sort of mod conflict, or something corrupt in your save file.
