Short on beds

Why are my settlements short on beds while there are unoccupied residential plots? As far as I can tell the plots have enough materials. The town is using a city plan and has a mayor. I wish it was clearer to me on why things aren’t working in SS2. That‘s why I assign a plan and mayor so I don’t have to micro-manage. What am I missing?

P. S. I’m new to SS. Lots of user interface to come to grips with. Is there a report screen that can provide insight into this type of issue?

When you go into 'build mode', does the HUD along the top of the screen show that you have more Beds than you do Settlers?

No. In every case there are more settlers than beds. Tangent: If I add vanilla beds in a plan-based settlement could it conflict with the plan at some point?

If it's one of the "built in" City Plans that SS2 comes with, it won't affect it if you add more. Those build everything they're ever going to in the initial construction phase (the bit where it takes over your camera and makes you fly around over the settlement).

How's the "build limit" of the settlement in question looking? (top right of the screen when you're in Build Mode, same HUD as where it shows beds etc)

They are std building plans, so that’s good to know. All are under the build limits, most are newer settlement, maybe 10-15 game days, some have less than 10 settlers, and are linked by vanilla supply routes. I see I selected the “SimCity” style during my initial setup.

I must be missing something fundamental. I select a city plan, select a leader after many game days a couple things get built, most things don’t especially beds and defenses, so I spend most time in the game fast traveling to defend the settlements while most of the settlers stand motionless next to unoccupied plots.

Can you hit one of the "idle" settlers with the Vit-o-matic and see what it says their home/job/hobby are? That sounds like they arent being auto assigned to the plots in the first place.

Hey I am running into the same issue, my city plan settlements have more settlers than homes, and I have butt loads of supplies and they are all caravaned together. I tried the Vita Matic trick and yes several of my settlers have no home. So how do you assign a settler a home? If I use the normal method is that going to unassign them from the plot they are working on already?

Thanks!

You can use workshop build mode to assign a settler to a job plot, recreation plot AND a residential plot.
Reassigning them to another plot, say a different recreation plot doesn't assign them from other plots that they are assigned to.

Thanks for the reply I figured you could. I think part of the problem is there are not enough housing plots, even though I chose city plans, and I have buttloads of supplies and they are all linked. Seems like some settlements work out fine but others seem to be lacking houseing plots. I am not really trying to mico manage my settlements but when I pop in to defend or to try and find HQ members I notice that they don't have enough beds.

Even though I have auto updates on, and have it set to not have to be present for them to upgrade 90 percent of the time when I visit a settlment it seems like 4th of July as everything explodes and upgrades. But then while I am out in the world I am getting constant messages about upgrades so not sure what is going on LOL.

Thanks

Well I decided to visit all my settlements and check them out, almost all had a bed issue. And in some I could not even find enough residential plots to assign people to, so I just put down some sleeping bags and moved on. But now I find that defence in some settlements is zero because the plots need settlers with agility. And to top it off it seems like some form of the disease mechanic is working (I turned it off long ago because of jank) so some plots are showing the unhappy face making them stop working, but I cannot cure the owner as I have no prompts and they have no disease symptoms.

But I am not really too concerened as I am leaving most settlements on auto pilot and most are at level 3.

And I am used to a bit of jank with all the mods I run.

I just finished Chapter 2 and it seems all the HQ systems are running fine so I am having a great time with that.

So off to build up my HQ to get ready for Chapter 3.

Thanks all!

Sounds exactly the same as the problem I am having where auto assignment sometimes isn't working and settlers
not being assigned despite available residential plots and work plots. It isn't an all settlements all the time but a bit random.
However I've had the most problem at the castle IIRC. Problems started when I started building there and deleted a few vanilla beds
that were present (no one was assigned to them I think) and they were deletable with vanilla scrap (I don't use any scrapping mods
except for RMS and place everywhere (but rarely us it's extra object selection)).

The situation at the Castle (and many other settlements) is really weird. The Hud in the lower left corner almost always gets stuck
in some settlements but only the bars that shows residential. work and recreation. In conjunction with this the bed count often drops,
sometimes quite dramatically (like from 53 to 38 despite having 59 beds according to the Sim settlements 2 management terminal).

While Castle has become a very big settlement now the problem started when it was still a small settlements (<8-10 settlers).

Like Behemothrex my settlements sometimes also suffers from incapacitated settlers (red :( with x for eyes) while the settlers
in question at the same time is roaming around at full health (according to the vit-o-matic).
