Settlements under attack get "unmarked" on the map?

I'm not sure how to explain it beyond the title - basically, established settlements give an "under attack" notice... but when I go to the data tab, select the mission, and click "go to", it doesn't bring me to the settlement... when I eventually find it on the map, it is now an "undiscovered location". This has happened... at least a dozen times so far this playthrough? It seems to have started after the point where Jake was taken by the Gunners if memory serves.

Yes, that is working as intended. For gunner attacks spawned by SS2, the settlement location is marked undiscovered, so you have to travel to a nearby location first and make your way there to combat the attackers.

It's annoying but since I'm running the "Settlement Attack Spawns Outside the Settlement" mod it does give all my defenses a chance to chew on the gunners a bit before I get into range.

I wonder if that's something that should nearly be made an option in the holotape/MCM (defaulting to how it works now obviously)...

It does seem a bit odd that for every other type of settlement attack you can travel straight to the settlement in question, while the gunner attacks require you to go the long way around.

The Gunner Attacks aren't like the regular vanilla attacks on settlements.
The gunners attack in "waves" like in "Where There's Smoke" and "Hostile Takeover" so there is likely a technical reason for making the Settlement undiscovered, so that it doesn't have a fast travel marker.

The gunners attack in "waves"
They do? All the attacks on my settlements once the Gunners start really being annoying are by just one (sizeable) group that all attack at once. If they're supposed to be coming in waves something in my setup isn't playing nice with the mechanic.

When I've played them, there are gunners in different places about the settlement. They haven't seemed to start attacking at the same time.
That being said, it's been a while since i've played through several attacks. I'll have to play them again and see.

Good to know it is an intended thing! I just wish the "go to" on the map worked so I could find the thing quicker (my ability to memorize maps is... not great lol). Or, actually, would it be possible to have it place a quest marker on the map for where it is?

I've been seeing them mainly as one giant blob of Gunners as well, but it's a fun fight all the same lol

I think I recall @kinggath saying that it was done in response to people reporting that they would fast travel in, spawn in the middle of the attackers, and get immediately killed to death. But, yeah, making it a toggleable setting would be nice.

Mods that move the attack spawn points outside of the settlement boundaries would help with the "appearing in the midst of a bullet storm" issue, one of the reasons why I picked up the mod I mentioned before. I got sick of showing up to find raiders and mutants and robots and whatnot in the middle of my settlement, having seemingly waltzed past all my carefully constructed defenses and walls. I don't know if SS2 uses the same spawn points for the gunner raids, but I suspect it does.

On a humorous note one attack at Hangman's Alley had fully 80% of the gunners spawn on top of the dumpster outside of the western side of the settlement - right in the strike zone of a pair of missile turrets I had mounted there. That was one of the shortest attacks I've ever responded to.

If you are using this mod, the author is confirming that "they spawm within settlements on fast travel" isn't adressed

As a reminder - The style of doing this mod in this way makes it so that if you fast travel to a settlement that is under attack then the attack spawns will sometimes be moved to the center of the settlement. If you walk into the settlement under attack without fast traveling then the mod should work as expected. This is the same issue that occasionally occurred with "Settlement Attacks Beyond."

There is also a theory that creating and placing a fast travel mat outside the settlement resolves the fast travel issue as well. A number of people have said this worked for them but that is anecdotal.

so, even moving the enenmy spawn points outside of workshop boundries, this will happen. as far as i understand so far there two ways how this happens:
  1. the game calculates how long you would need to travel there and if you would need longer as the enemy they spawn in the middle.
  2. the sticky note of the upon mod suggests that the enemy spawning are also tied to the fast travel point for the playe
