Settlement food production

Hi all, Doing another ss2 playthrough and I've noticed my food plots are underproducing in every settlement. Regardless of what the sum of food plot production is, the settlement ui shows that food production is only slightly higher than population. So at Hangman's Alley, my 11 settlers should be producing 24 food. Instead they are producing 12. If I add another agriculture plot that at level one produces 3 food, the food production momentarily bumps p to 15, but it will soon sink back down to 12.

I was wondering if it were some kind of caravan problem where the surplus being diverted to other settlements, but every populated settlement should already be self-sufficient with food. So I can't find my extra food.

Yes the Caravan Plots redistribute food (and water) around the trade network. Don't forget that plots can 'cost' food (check the ASAMs - it's usually Residential or Recreational Training that have a Food 'cost') to keep running too, so just looking at the number of population isn't enough.

Yup. What yaugieLC said. Plus there are 'dynamic needs' which change the resource requirements of your settlement over time as it grows and plots upgrade.
This usually means the more time passes (settlements advance) the resource cost increase. You can check that option in the holotape or MCM menu and turn it off to see if sth changes.

Here's a link to the SS1 wiki: https://simsettlements.com/web/wiki/index.php?title=Holotape_Gameplay_Options_Difficulty

Thanks for your reply. My point is that the caravan plots don't seem to be redistributing the food correctly. All of my settlements are overproducing food, and yet the caravans strip away the excess food regardless. I've taken extra ASAM food costs into account.

I've been just spamming farms. And upgrading to advanced farms, etc. My food production could feed the entire New California Republic. But even though I produce 72 food at Abernathy, they only give me 10 food because I have 10 settlers. I never get food surplus in my workshop either.

There has been something odd going on with that. I swear I got told that the way SS2 worked bypassed the vanilla 'caps' on that, but only after reactivating "Uncapped Settlement Surplus" mod did I start actually having more than a single razorgrain or corn a month in the workbenches. And thats with orders of magnitude more Food production value than logic says my game needs.

I have had that in my load order since v1.0.0. That might be the reason I have not seen this issue.
Yeah, I have had it installed since forever, but deactivated it early on after SS2 launch because someone said it was unnecessary. I'd have to go serious digging to find the post/s in question again now though, and considering how much of the OTHER stuff I got told early on has turned out to be half-true at best...

I think I know what post you are talking about. IIRC, that same thread told me to get rid of Uncapped Settlement Surplus and get a mod that changes the settlement attack mechanic instead...

Uncapped Settlement Surplus has code to make use of WSFW if installed. Maybe I can find a clue in the code. No promises though... IDEK uses a 3rd party Papyrus compiler and I have a hard time following his naming convention...

IDEK's Logistics Station do the same thing it just puts all surplus into your master workbench. I always have surplus food and water in my master station. It's a huge feature of the mod. Kinda like UCSS is built into it.

I was wondering about food production. I took USS out of my most recent playthrough, and my food>workshop has tanked. I'm going to add it back in now just to see if it changes back to what it was before.
I don't really like doing the "this other mod resolved this issue for me" thing, but do let us know if it worked for you too.
It definitely feels like something's off with how SS2's calculating those 'leftovers' though.

My workshops are now calculating food correctly. Not sure what fixed it. I did a tour of all my settlements, and I think one of them might have had that vanilla negative food bug and become a huge drain on the whole network. Sometimes a brief visit can set things right.

But yeah, even some excess food in the workshops now. All's well that ends well.

that vanilla negative food bug
Ah, yeah, if the systems THINK this one settlement needs 4000+ more Food to get back to even, thatd be where it was all vanishing to. There isnt really any other workaround for that except physically going to every settlement to force it to properly update the numbers, as far as I know.
