Remote Settlement Wipes or some sort of crashing settlement fix - Please!

So, I don't want to be a complainer, but I'm wondering when the return of this feature is planned on the roadmap? I've got a level 84 character here and a busted game. I'd really prefer not to waste all the work I've put into this, but there are areas of the map I simply cannot enter anymore, and this isn't limited to the settlement itself, but also nearby locations. This is preventing me from entering areas I hadn't visited yet and well, it's a problem.

For what it's worth, I'm using the RotC city plans. I see messages saying the settlement is upgrading, so something is happening, but the city (the entire cell really) is just an instant crash zone. For every other settlement, it seems as though I need to manually update the build limit at the workshop, even though "respect build limits" is set to off in the settings holotape.

I just updated to the most current version available on the Nexus, and was disappointed to find still no tools for fixing what seems to be a common problem. If a settlement wipe is infeasible for some reason, maybe we can get a remote city plan change instead? I'm not going to tell you folks how to solve the problem, but... it's a problem that needs solving. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.

Out of curiosity, what happens if I disable SS2? Is the entire save then borked or do the cities just go poof? Anybody tried it?

And on a final note, thanks for this great mod! I really enjoy using it... I just wish we had more troubleshooting tools.

This has been asked a lot. As far as I know, there has not been an official answer.

There is a 99.9% chance your save would become trash. Fallout 4 does not support removing mods.

This is definitely becoming a very common request. Ideally it wouldnt happen in the first place, but completely reducing the odds of it isnt seeming very possible.
And the fact that the utility tool people advise to help with it has to be used pre emptively really isnt ideal, tbh

Agree with this entirely. My first request would be to be able to nuke a settlement from orbit, not cause they keep complaining about their fingernails or having to sleep in shifts (though that too) but cause of the CTD chance. Am now at level 85 or something and thankfully resolved all my CTD issues, but every time it was a pain in the butt.

On a previous save I was able to circumvent the bad power node crash using Player Comments mod dialog pop-up prompt.
1. Disable Player Comments
2. Fast Travel to bugged settlement
3. Crash
4. Load Auto Save (of after Fast Travel)
5. Player Comments "Are You Sure Disable" Prompt pauses game
6. Without touching popup box; Open console, us Check Power Grid tool ; Fix Power Grid, no more crash.
Downside is relying on that mod.

  • DIRELY need way to ‘reset’, ‘restart’, or ‘wipe’ settlements…
1. Many default plans exceed default budget… meaning settlement progress stops. Often lacking essential plots.
2. Several plans include TOO many unnecessary plots and not enough essential plots.
3. This is compounded by no preview or ’info’ when selecting a plan… basically pick a default plan and cross your fingers?
4. Neither FO4 nor SS2 is perfect… NEED a way to clean or reset problem areas.
5. The workshop ‘scrap settlement’ feature is absolutely useless, if not hazardous, and SHOULD NOT be available when using SS2.
6. Using ‘city planner desk’ can ‘remove plan’ and ‘all items’… this does a great job of clearing the lot…. BUT…
A. a few items left behind that cannot be removed or targeted.
B. Budget does not get reset or changed. “Cannot build anymore” … waited real life 12hrs, restart game, fast travel, etc. … no help.
C. If you do make ANY changes. Budget becomes locked. can no longer improve or change settllement.

sorry, but given the frailly of FO4 and complexity of SS2…
‘reset settlement’ should have been a required feature prior to launch.

So before you start a plan go to your workbench and click manage and change the build limit to a minimum of 400%. Also make sure Respect Build Limit in settings is off. Also there are many Leveled City Plans out there to choose from. Experiment with some non stock or non-RotC plans. Or even those, which might or might not have their own issues.

SS2 build limit is max 300%.
there is no way to experiment with 'other plans' when the existing plan cannot be removed entirely nor reset.
constantly have problems with settlements... not following commands, requiring constant intervention, standing around in settlements waiting for scripts to finish.
even with setting at 'no involvement' settlements cannot run themselves.
upgrades bugged, multiple duplicate items, not running power lines by default!?!?!, building 50 bed but no food or water !?!?!?! HAHAHAHA
currently have multiple broken settlements that cannot be fixed or changed.... sigh.
LOVE sooo many things about SS2... but the number of game breaking bugs, crashes, technical issues, and 'no reset' is troubling, to say the least.
to date ALL my major technical issues and crashes have been SS2 related.
would like a way to wipe cell and restore FO4 default.
THIS would permit trying new settlements or fixing broken ones.

I don't know, Boston is a crashfest even without SS2... Though I've been playing with mods and DLCs for so long I'm not even sure how vanilla game performs there. Probably not too well either.
One thing I've noticed is that destroying plots via sensor doesn't drop the build limit. It just stays where it was. Not sure if the game still thinks the plots are there and tries to load them or not... seems like less is being loaded so there's that.

@Kahlax If you use mods like Scrap Everything or stuff that conflicts with SS2 then those are 100% the problem not SS2 but everyone has an opinion of what breaks their games. SS2 is a little buggy but I don't have crashes or game breaking events cause I don't use stupid mods anymore. Everyone's mileage varies, but I have played with just FO4 and the base ss2 mod and reqs and had complete playthroughs with no issues, so I don't think SS2 is the issue as you think it is. I also have a mod list of over 280+ and haven't had crashes or game breaking events due to SS2 either so...
