Question Question about adding functionality to workbenches

Is it possible to create a workshop object that attaches to a workbench (yes, I realize I'd have to modify nifs to have said attach points), that would then add more functionality to that WB? In other words, when you clicked on it, there'd be a new choice of what you want to do? I know the attached object part isn't necessary even if this is posssible - thats more for immersion (upgrading your workbench to do more stuff). I guess what I am asking is, can I add a new category to the pop-up? I recall there was a limit (I think), but was wondering if having the WSFW made that feasible?

It sounds like what you are wanting is a custom activator with it’s own set of options - that you can “snap on” to the workbench.

Thank you for your responses. The WB I am actually considering for this is the Robot one from Automatron. I have a bunch of different mods I use for robots, and I love Robot Home Defence but its badly outdated (pre-Automatron). I am surprised no-one else has update it to work WITH Automatron (Yes, I know RHD let you do some of the stuff the DLC later did, which is part of the reason it's outdated, BUT... it still does some stuff Automatron doesn't do, like allow you to create some of the vanilla robots with the proper voices).

Basically, I want to be able to 'upgrade' the regular Robot WB to include a lot of the RHD stuff, PLUS all the missing robot parts from Nuka-World (there is one mod that lets you do that now), and also add-in a bunch of other robots from The Nexus and elsewhere (M150 has a bunch of neat stuff, like Claptrap from Borderlands). There are even those Servitrons from FONV. Also Add-in a slew of custom paint jobs, both my own and lots from The Nexus, as well as paint-Jobs that mimic the ones from FO76. A different upgrade will be able to give us synths, and with that we have AI so we can get true robot companions, etc. Ambitious, I know, but I had hopes that one 'big' modder who mentioned something along these lines was going to do it, but hasn't mentioned it since (his PA mod was considered 'finished' at the time, but now I see he's updated it recently and is planning lots more, so instead of getting the guy that gave us 10K choices from a PA WB, you guys have me). LOL

But the first thing I need to do is have a menu pop-up when you first open the Robot bench, which will give you choices of what to build, unlike the vanilla one which is so annoying. I thought having an actual dohicky you had to attach to the thing would be more immersive, but it certainly isn't necessary.

Yeah, you can attach something to that workbench as well. I don't think anything particularly special would be required - either have an alt-activation on the "attachment", or add a new activation to the Robotic Workbench if the attachment is "attached" as it were.

The robotic stuff is way outside my skill-level, I need to play and use Automatron properly someday.
