after you kill the stag what exactly are you supposed to do? it says place a beacon... I dropped a mark beacon but didnt work.. please help.. thank you

Yeah I had problems with this too and eventually gave up after many attempts since I couldn't get it working and
the rad disappeared after a few days as well so I now have this as a quest that can't be finished.

It seems that the instructions in game need to be updated then because this is what it looks like in game (nothing about inventory):

And, i tried putting the beacon in the inventory before reading the replies(before posting).. ill go back and see if it works this time.. maybe i did it wrong.. thanks my fellow wastelander comrades!

Tracking beacon, not mark beacon
 
OMG placing the beacon in the stag's inventory??? That never occurred to me. Well done whoever posted that first.
 
That one probably needs some clarification. I only did the inventory thing as a plan B. Dropping stuff sometimes works, as we see in Picking up the pieces, but most of the time it doesn't (like the infamous first quest).
