Question New outpost not linking inventories, issues with former minutemen settlement, now vassal

I started a new playthrough with all the new conqueror toys (including a few faction packs) and have run in to some weird behaviour. Just going to describe them here and hope that somemone can help, or at least give me some ideas to try.

Playing as a Raider (Jammer questline), Minutemen had Abernathy and Gunners Starlight, so I set up at Red Rocket for my main base. I'm playing a modified Survival game, using Sleep or Save and a cigarette saving mod (that creates hard saves).

1. I can't sleep at Red Rocket anymore - my game will crash a couple minutes later. I can use the save option with Sleep or Save, but the Sleep causes a repeatable crash about 90 seconds after I wake up (this is new - I was able to sleep at Red Rocket until I was about level 25 and there has been no change to my load order or mod list). Both RR and Abernathy are at level 1.

2. I took Abernathy from the Minutemen and made it a Vassal. After I took it over, I'd still get random Minutemen visitors (had the Visitors option turned on). Not very immersive! So I turned the option off. I still had a friendly Minuteman on site.

3. Still at Abernathy, if I visit it, it's sometimes fine, but other times the Citizens will go hostile to the defenses and the guards and maybe? each other (but not to me). It's hard to tell what's going on as none are hostile to me, but are shooting at each other. Turrets will start targeting settlers randomly. During one of these events the remaining friendly Minuteman got killed. It still sometimes happens after they died.

4. I took Starlight from the Gunners, again as a Vassal. None of the issues that I have with Abernathy have happened. (I don't have a Gunners or Minutemen faction pack installed, but I do have Far West Minutemen and all its requirements). I took over Sunshine Tidings from the Peace Punks and also had no problems (also: I literally LOL'd at them being the faction there - I hope that's part of the faction pack that they tend to spawn there, because it's perfect!).

5. I took over Hangman's Alley from the Rust Devils as a new Outpost (but did not change my HQ from RR). It is not linked to any of the settlements, so my food and water requirements are tanked. When I look at my pipboy I can see the supply lines between RR and my Vassals, but none to Hangman's. I can deal with the issues at Abernathy and RR, but this one is REALLY annoying.

To my knowledge, this is intentional and there are limits on the distances between outposts and vassals. In my previous game, playing as a BoS Liberator, I established an Outpost at Red Rocket with vassals including Tenpines, and then an Outpost at the Boston Airport with vassals. The W/R/E were shared between the two Outposts, but there was no sharing of resources (food, junk etc) until I filled in the middle of the map. My fourth Outpost was Greentop. At this point, the supply lines were completed through the middle of the map - Greentop to Tenpines.

I prefer this approach, but then I like to fly around the map in a BoS vertibird.:pilot

To continue this discussion a'bit further, one of the reasons I prefer the BoS and vertibird flying addresses to some degree your "annoyance" which was also mine starting with the vanilla game. Quoting Kinggath from the Nexus salvage beacon mod, "How often do you find yourself enjoying some exploration, finding a cool "dungeon", and mid-way through you hit your carrying capacity? ...... But wait, I'm supposed to be the General of the Minutemen and the leader of dozens of settlements, why am I hauling hundreds of pounds of junk?"

Applying Kinggath's quote to the BoS and, if you don't mind a'bit of a slow walk in power armor, you can haul huge quantities from one Outpost to another via vertibird. Again, thanks to Kinggath via Sim Settlements, there is another incentive to visit your Outposts and Vassals (assuming you manage vassals and I prefer micromanagement) and that is tax collection.

Have a good day
