Mod methods

Ok, I keep seeing things for F4SE, and other mods that I just can’t find. Now, I know about nexus mods, though I’ve never used it. In your opinion, what is the best way to mod? All I do is open the game and go to the mod menu that’s in the game, but I see so many mods discussed here that intrigue me (Wes Tech mod for starters) or is my method perfectly fine. I also don’t have a huge mod list right now. It’s SS2, extended, HUDFramework, WSFW, a couple SS2 Add-on packs, and manufacturing extended.

Kind of curious about this too; I legitimately haven't ever used a mod manager for a Bethesda Game, I still do it the oldschool "manually download the file then extract directly into the appropriate directory" way that I learned back in the Morrowind days.

The easiest way is to use Vortex.
First create an account on the Nexus mods website. Then you can open Vortex and login to that account. Now you can search through the Nexus site and download (almost) any mod straight to Vortex and install it from there.

There are many youtube video tutorials for Vortex. IIRC, Gopher has a couple of good ones.

The benefit of using a mod manager is management of loose file that some mods have. The mod manager will remove the loose files when you disable/uninstall a mod.
As to Vortex vs Mod Organizer 2, its personal preference. MO2 is more complicated but powerful as well.

The in game manager works fine. Use it if you prefer. When you install mods, you need to keep track of loose files added. If you do not, after a while of adding and removing mods, the leftover loose files will start causing strange behavior. This is the reason to use a mod manager. It will make sure no "trash" is left behind when you uninstall a mod.

Personally, I think Vortex' inability to manually adjust the load order is its biggest weakness. Well, you can, but its an unintuitive mess with its mod groups and rules... I turn off auto sort and use the in game manager for that.
