Dangit.

@Tinuvia has put an idea in my head I can't shake.

There needs to be a mod that causes other settlers to stop and give Jun Long a hug or a pat on the back when they pass each other on the streets of Sanctuary.

Is this do-able?

If so, it may be time for me to learn how.

Dangit. I do not need another hobby.

OK. So the animation exists*, so that's probably half the battle right there.

Is there a way to key settlers (or even better-certain settlers) to interact?

*Although we probably don't want them using some of the OTHER animations on the street--it would frighten the horses!**

**If, that is, there were horses to frighten.

I love it!! I’d like to give Jun a hug too. Well, Marcy seems to need one too but I don’t think she’d like one. @RayBo I’m getting that mod. I need a way to hug Piper after I accidentally shoot her. Does it work on Dogmeat too, I wonder? Ah, this mod would work for that.

Maybe the animations could work for settler-settler interaction under a “mistletoe”-marker?

I would swear that in one playthrough, after giving her a nice outfit, and a nice home, and letting some time pass, she got some new, almost positive comments, but I've never been able to replicate, and may have been hallucinating after too many hours of play.

this also looks wildly interesting.

maybe we can train them to have more confidence? or the author would entertain the idea of a hug as it develops

This mod has my attention!
Yea im looking to in that Mod but i wait a little bit as it seams a little bit Heavy so better to wait that is Tested better but the idea is great to train the Settlers one thing that i miss in Fallout if im a General or a Leader.

I am just a little to excited. I have tried in my own game since F4 came out to have settler and settlement play to be as interesting as possible.

I really, want a settler RPG systems to play along side KGs settlement system. The factions mean little to me nowadays, they are all flawed. Hahahaha, what the Commonwealth needs is you to make it right, kind of gameplay. Hahaha, just as flawed in all likelihood. So settlers should be involved and included in the future?

I really hope this, or something like this could fit the bill. Maybe? Fingers crossed. Likewise “tracking”

I was reading that one, too. A lot of promise if it does what it says on the carton.

Looks like I'm pulling a double at work today, so I'll have some reading time, but no ability to watch videos. Any pointers to a good primer so I can start learning about this dang rabbit hole called modding?

It sounds like scripting is gonna be the heart of what I need to learn, considering the roleplay-oriented things that interest me.

I'm not unfamiliar with programming principles, but am MANY generations out of date.

I am the guy who taught himself enough COBOL* overnight to teach a lab class, so I shouldn't be completely hopeless.

*MANY generations.

Hm, if you have some time on your hands for reading rather than video watching (where Seddon4494 is really good), there's a scripting tutorial on Papyrus that starts at the beginning and goes into more advanced stuff here. It's written for Skyrim, but much of the functionality is the same for FO4. And the Creation Kit Wiki should have notes on what's changed for FO4.

Thanks.

Should go nicely with too much caffeine.

Yeah...

My brain is not gonna absorb that tonight.

Guess I'll watch some videos this weekend, then go back to the text.

Thanks, though.

@Tinuvia : thanks for the guidance, but I'm gonna have to put off any attempt at learning this for some time. I'm facing a whole lot of 10-12 workdays from now until the end of the year.

Zombie WetRats don't learn so good.

And that thing I linked is not exactly easy reading :) hope you get more time and want to get back to mod making later - when your ideas do work out, it’s really nice (except for now when I’m doing bug testing and can’t find what’s wrong ...)

It was very clearly-written, just not the right thing to read when exhausted and needing to stay alert for three more hours.

Settlers Legends has been disabled.

Someone was definitely on some good @#$%, and didn't share.

Ok, there appears to be an author and mod that is working on this and got to the same point as we did in this discussion at the top "Hugs" for the sole purpose of "Hugs" more so than :) other acts.

The author seems genuine in moving it forward but currently, the mod seems a little buggy.
