Question How do I select something and add it to a layer?

To do this you need to go to the Workshop Plus options and have "Auto Change Layers" set to "ON":
After that you can grab an object in workshop mode and then tab to cancel the move - it will add the object you just grabbed-and-released to your current layer.

If you go into the Advanced section, put a hotkey on the option to Delete Active Layer:
It will offer you the options to:
Cancel
Delete Items
Move Items To Another Layer
The last one is way, way easier than shifting stuff to the default layer individually.
