Old Post How do I Remove Sanctuary's Houses?

Simply put,I don't like Sanctuary's houses. They're small and cramped, and I can't really do what I want with them. Further,I'm the sort of person who likes to knock over the old,and build the new on top of it. Further, they simply take up a lot of space that I could put to better use. I do not want to use a scrapping mod, because those cause issues. I also don't want to install a mod that simply removes the houses from their foundations, because I might wind up giving Sanctuary over to Codsworth,in a future playthrough. The man needs a dashing bowler for the job, though.

I've tried selecting the houses and disabling them, but I can't seem to select them for disabling at all. What solutions do you suggest, for getting rid of Sanctuary's houses?

There are a ton of ways.
Console ~ disable, mark for delete
Place everywhere

I like - Santuary Lite
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29610
Jenn and Hozsa fixed the nav-mesh. Hozsa is kind of a master at that kind of thing.
If you use it, I recommend testing it to put as low in the load order as you need, not just forcing it to the bottom and start a clean new game with it.

Well,as I said in my post, the console isn't a help; I can't select the houses for disabling in the first place. Second, also as I said in my post,I don't want to install a mod that removes them wholesale from the get-go,as in a future playthrough,I might hand control of the settlement over to Codsworth, and I'd eat my combat boots if the City Plans for Sanctuary don't use the houses.

As for Place Everywhere,I used the pants off of it to make my Red Rocket Mansion just before turning the game off. And I'm unaware of any functions in that mod that allows me to zap non-workshop objects. And reviewing the mod page, there's no documentation for any such feature.

if selecting them is the problem, then try

better console:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26582

it allows scrolling through so you can select the right item. hahaha, but still a mod. :bye

If you can’t use a mod or the console, then you would need to figure out how to do it in the creation kit.... That is about all I can recommend. :crazy

Place Everywhere does have an expanded selection key, the “ins” key is the default. Careful I have forgoten to turn it off and deleted bad things. Ahahaha like Piper. :punish

Check the Place Everywhere page, they have a very nice expanded selection of hot keys and googling you can get user created documents in word and excel explaining the more powerful functions.

You appear to be misunderstanding something; I have no issues with mods,in general. What I have issue with are mods that outright remove the houses from Sanctuary, out of the box, because that would crash and burn all over any City Plans involving Sanctuary, which I might wind up using in the future.

I have Better Console, already, and the ability to scroll through objects with it is not documented on the mod page. Every time I try to click on the houses,I either get something else,or nothing at all. Most perplexingly,if I try to select the houses from any angle where I'd be overlapping with the ground,I wind up selecting water,of all things.

As for the Extra Objects Selection Mode,it doesn't allow me to touch the houses.

And,finally,as for using the Creation Kit to do the job,I refer you back to the point about having them removed from the get-go,since that would involve making a mod to remove them.

We're going in circles here.

hahaha, yeah, sorry.

The process of elimination.

It will be interesting to see if anyone else has an idea.

I believe the houses in Sanctuary are among many items which can't be scrapped normally due to being precombined with other items to make loading simpler. In order to remove them in-game you would need to have turned off precombines which dangerously may allow you to delete things you shouldn't and can hit performance. Some who don't like the houses use mods which have removed them in the editor. If you don't want them gone to start with, it might be time to learn how to use the Construction Kit and create your own mod, perhaps removing specific items from precombines and leaving them in place to scrap or not in game.

Hmm. A potentially dangerous idea struck me.

What long-term risks am I courting,if I install Scrap Everything, scrap Sanctuary's houses (And the vines all over them),then uninstall Scrap Everything and reenable Precombines?

I've not tried it myself, but going by old conversations on here there is a good chance that either they will just reappear or your game will crash every time you get near Sanctuary. But guess there's only one way to be sure (just make sure you have a good save to go back to).

Yeah, the houses just popped back afterwards. To be extra safe,I deleted the save and loaded a backup from before installing Scrap Everything; I've never encountered the problems that Scrap Everything causes, but I've seen others lose months of their gaming lives from it.

And while it rankles me,as single-task mods for petty things like this drive me up the wall,I very well might need to go out and make myself a mod that lets me scrap Sanctuary's houses.

That said, that's a last resort. Single-task mods for petty things are pretty much bloat.

@Riddle78, I hadn’t misunderstood in my earlier reply. I was trying to be nice and let you come to your own conclusions.

I have had similar questions and frustrations in the past where more knowledgeable users where more abrupt.

Oddly, knowing how it works I was still hoping that the thread would yield something that I hadn’t seen before. :friends

To city plan or not city plan in that location, and balance the building in the triangle of death seems to be the best path short of building your own personal mod, fixing nav-mesh and setting precombines. If you do go down this path @damanding has some excellent articles and threads on this site and the nexus that are indispensable in there educational value.

Simply ... DONT DO THAT Comrade. They are good houses with roof and walls not to mention floors.

The issue; I can barely stick three Interior Plots inside any of Sanctuary's houses, and that house with the Ledger Terminal fits one less, thanks to the terminal. The rest of the house is wasted negative space. This is on top of my previously stated desire to knock down the old,in order to build the new on top of it. I want the option to raze Sanctuary down to its foundations, and build something better on them.

You can pick the terminal up in workshop mode and move it somewhere more convenient. I shifted it to the Sole Survivor’s room in the Rosa house in my latest playthrough.

Tbh it’s more convenient to use a self-built terminal if you want to program/control various things. At least you can hook it up to the power grid.

If you use place everywhere coots and uituit have interior plots that place like a 1x2 but infact are 1x1. Uituit also has some that are thinner so they can be overlapped a bit. looks kind of neat when done right.

I ran across one of Uit's bus plots recently - very neat!
