How about adding a Stonemason NPC?

Unless you've been unlucky enough to have had one of your arms shot off by a Raider or a Gunner, bitten off by a Deathclaw, or snipped off by a Mirelirk's claw nearly any fool can hammer a nail into wood (with the possible exception of Clem [I won't include Strong because he'd probably punch them in]).
So, unless I haven't got to that SS2 quest yet, how about adding a Stonemason NPC to teach our settlers how to build proper brick houses and allow the Minutemen to use his knowledge to rebuild the Castle (if you're playing that specific character).

So is this suggestion about having residential plots made of brick (because those exist already), or repairing the Castle (because there are already mods that do this and its outside of the scope of SS2)?

Also, if you feel something is missing you can always make your own add on using the tools that have been provided.

Or is it a suggestion for there being some form of mechanics-level "progression" added to Residential type plots? In which case there's already (at least) two other Suggestion threads about that notion.

Huh sounds a lot like a mod I am working on right now. Nicer MM inspired buildings. Not all brick mind you cause wood looks good too, and especially when you mix the 2.

It doesn't seem that far fetched since we have an NPC that teaches us to grow better seeds, an NPC to bring purification (for drinkin'), an NPC to instruct people with building a hybrid reactor... All those are potential settlers. So why not add Mason the stonemason? Or Casey the crafter? Or Holly the hardware girl? This could unlock some building plans or even a new residential class... Or add brick as a building resource (perhaps gained from conversion only).

I was thinking more along the lines of using the NPC to unlock brick and mortar buildings and possibly allowing plots that already produce concrete to be able to produce a higher amount of it.

Sturges has been hammering for over 2000 hours. Sanctuary should look prewar by now
Yeah, but Sturges is useless. For some reason I keep finding him in Murkwater wearing a brothel madame's feather dress... Every single playthrough. Dunno what this is about.

As far as teaching or training NPC's to give them a skill I always thought using a VR pod to train them. Any skill could be trained this way. Some skills could have multiple levels to train. Of course anyone skilled it could be possible maybe to take on a NPC trainee that would acquire the skill over time as well. And of course if the trained NPC dies the skill dies with them perhaps.
I do like the idea of a stone mason skill, they could lay bricks as well !
