HOT TAKE, HQ is too much for casual players

I thought adding the ASAM was meant to make me as a relatively casual and lore-focusing player a bit easier on building settlements to I have to build each wall. With a nice touch of having different and cool settlers in your settlement and with a well-made questline backing up the legitimacy of the ASAM.

Now with this GNN HQ design, it is 10 times more complicating than the vanilla game, I think this defiles the original purpose of this mod to the point all we see in this forum is basically players teaching others how to get some basic things with the HQ.
However I love the CPD concept added in though, it gives more quest and more interesting things happening in the Commonwealth indeed. I also still love chapter 2's story with the gunners making them not only just a "stronger" raider just like the super mutants.

But yes, my hot take please don't flame me too hard guys, what do you guys think both the player and the modders?

It's January 30 and I just got to the HQ build quest and, like many others, I'm stuck in the Build Living Quarters portion. I downloaded SS2 and SS2 Chapter 2 this month so I should have the most updated version. I'm loving it so much and I love the idea of HQ but, as a seasoned builder, I'm finding it REALLY confusing. I can't figure out the vit-o-matic either. Someone in another thread suggested using it to rank settlers for moving to HQ but I see no way to actually move them there. It doesn't come up in the list. Maybe because I have no living quarters yet? It's a crazy cycle. I watched a Youtube vid where someone used console commands to get the Facilities Energy at the right place but when I use the same PRID it doesn't register. the Help 4 command never works for me for some reason (like, literally I typed in the exact command this youtuber used and I got a totally different response).
I'm very frustrated. I donated $20 bucks because I've gotten so much enjoyment out of this content it's renewed my interest in the game and actually diverted my attention from RR2 which I've been obsessed with for over a year. But I'd love if I could find any help. I've seen some folks post the same question as me but thus far no response. I'm guessing because Chapter 2 is so new.

Funny thing is I really like the development and growth of Concord. I would much prefer to have Jake et al based there.
Same. The GNN building as always been one of those places that confused the f*** out of me and I spend more time running circles and going down dead ends then actually having fun. I should have listened to Deacon, LOL. He was my companion during the dialogue portion leading up to establishing HQ and he says something like, "This sounds like a bad idea, Boss."

Since the update and starting a new game accordingly, I keep getting the issue where I go to build and it tells me the room doesn't exist for that task. Stairwell storage, lounge etc. Or rooms are only half building. Like 2nd floor by elevator, one room has decorations floating in the air, mattress floating in the air, pillows for bunkbeds floating in the air, but no tables or beds. Another room at the end of the hall there has 2 different entry points, both have 2 doors each going in opposite directions. Jake's private quarters is 2 builds overlapping. It's got his room, but there's a partially built bunkbed sticking out of the wall overlapping where his bed is.Lupe still doesn't do her job. I can assign her limit and still get zero logistics energy, which prevents me from not only setting up supply lines, but building areas.
Before the recent update, the only issue I had was Lupe sucking at her job and pink windows in the science department build in the atrium. Now I can't even complete some of the areas, and even if I do, they're messed up.

This HQ irritant has forced me to completely give up on playing FO4 and start modding GTA5. Literally, SS is the single reason I started to love playing FO4 again and now it is the single reason I stopped playing it. Thanks mods for all together ruining my experience playing FO4 with what used to be my favorite mod. I find myself still wanting to play only to realize that I will just be sorely disappointed...again.

True but is the quest line mandatory? One can unlock all plot types , bilding types and building plans via tools and thus never have to bother with the quest line at all.
I was enjoying the story quests. It's added hours more content for me. If there's more in the future I want to be able to actually get to them. I don't feel like being stuck in the Neverwhere of HQ trying to figure out a weird building system.

Should be getting the following dialogue options:
  • SOMETHING ELSE
  • WORK AT HQ
  • NEVERMIND
  • TRADE
I do not have this. I just have the usual Settler Trade options when I try to assign settlers from the other settlements. The settlers at HQ just say, "Yeah? " to me. I don't even get a trade dialogue. Last I looked I had 0/60 Facilities Energy, down from 40/60. I'm very confused about assigning the NPCs at HQ. It comes up like a store trade but no matter which side I put an NPC on, the left (my side) or the right (usually the merchant's side) it says 'unassigned'. I see no way to assign any actual position. I'm so ridiculously confused by this system. That little ticker at that top left (I'm a bit feverish today and 'ticker' is the only word I can think of for whatever it is) says 10 in red with a person icon and 10 for the hammer icon, not in red. I don't know if the red means I need 10 people or I have 10 people. I'm so confused. There is nothing to explain any of this as far as I can see. I saw the fix you can run to reset the settler count at HQ if you haven't already done the mission. I don't have the game open because I felt too sick to play today, so forgive me if I'm vague on the terminology. I'm not at my best to say the least. I should be well enough to play tomorrow and I'll try to remember to get some screenshots of my activity and maybe some of us can compare notes? I don't mind being helped along in a forum as long as I'm getting some help. I looked and looked for a fix and all I see are the posts from December about the hotfix. Is the hotfix part of an update? I couldn't find an actual file anyway. If it's part of an update than I have the latest version because I only just downloaded SS2 and started using it maybe a week ago. I think January 22.
I got a mod to recruit unique settlers and another mod to allow the settlers to lead cities. I figured out how to assign them easily enough and I'm able to use City Plans without having all my Companions at max affinity, which I'm assuming is what gives them eligibility to lead. Speaking of which, why can't some of the other questline NPC's lead settlements? Sturgess would be great. I'd get a kick out of having the underrated (in my opinion) Mel from the Big Dig as a leader. Or one of the Atom Cats? There's some pretty fun non-Companion NPCs that it would make total sense to recruit as a city leader. I found her kind of annoying but Ronnie Shaw would be a good city leader.
Back to the HQ issue---I'm not inexperienced with figuring this stuff out. I'm pretty resourceful finding tutorials and helps and mod fixes. But HQ is not even a little intuitive. It's so frustrating. I'm completely stumped.

I'm glad it's not just me.

I do not have this.

Just as well. I DO get that dialog option only to be told I can't assign the person because I don't have enough living quarters set up. Then when I try to set up more living quarters I don't have enough "facilities energy", presumably because I don't have enough people there. :suicide2

Getting people assigned is confusing, I have the same questions as you.
In an effort to get supply agreements I thought that department needed more people.
I ended up moving people from left to right, or was it right to left? Closed the trading screen.
Upon reopening I saw they where unassigned. I then walked to the logistics desk and could assign only one person.
When done, still no clue on how to get a supply line going.
Same steps for the engineering department, still no clue how to get the networking going.

If you have installed the latest version of SS2 then you have the latest "hotfix" as well.
To address some bugs right after release those "hotfixes" or updates where put out in a fast pace. (few days or a day between a update)
That's where those posts are about. People found a bug, reported it, it got fixed by kinggath.
When the Long Save and HQ came to the surface and where sadly not easy to solve the fast hotfixing was put on hold to figure out LS and HQ.

Since my previous attempts stranded, I started HQ again from the point that the security has been build, see if I manage it this time :)

The supply line issue is the same after the last patch as it was before. At least for me. No matter how many people are assigned, there's no logistics energy being created 99% of the time. Rarely, I can max out the staff and sleep for 48 hours and get it to give me enough to create one or two. However, that's rare and most times I have to go through that whole process multiple times for it to catch a break. If I unassign Lupe and reassign her, it'll sometimes show other settlers also tagged as Lupe. She needs a major overhaul or something. It is insane that it can take real world HOURS to get even 5 logistics energy.
I wanna throat punch Lupe and smack her head into her desk....

This made me laugh out loud. I've contemplated just murdering everyone at HQ and ignoring it, then maybe trying again after Chapter 3 comes out by which time I'll have a different character.
I merc'ed Caleb on the HQ porch because I couldn't finish the quest and he was following me all over the damn place.. In my head.. he was Lupe.. and it felt good... no regrets... other than his quest is forever in my log now...
I'm terrified of chpt 3 considering I'm on my 7th game in 3 weeks and have yet been able to complete chpt 2 with the HQ issues....

Agree - story quests rock!

HQ, However: The HQ 'system' uses a very different interface from anywhere else. It's a lot to become comfortable with for use in only one place. And a lot to become knowledgeable enough with so as to have reasonable expectations of the likely outcomes of your decisions. (Especially if you're not sure you actually entered the correct command, or the correct command correctly.)

My recommendation: Make HQ construction a linear quest. Even better - just delegate the whole project to Cedric.

I had most of these same issues, but they seemed to have fixed themselves. (mostly) . I have most of the HQ stuff built and all looks GREAT.
Just one area is still messed up, and has been for a game week or more. Anna's Café doesn't seem to want to complete. I have pics.ScreenShot6.pngScreenShot7.png

Just an FYI for anyone not wanting to waste time waiting for supplies and energy to build up. I figured out the codes to get what is necessary to build except for recruiting and assigning people.
0E04B213 = Scrap
0E04B214 = Supplies
0E04B217 = Admin Energy
0E04B218 = Engineering Energy
0E04B219 = Facilities Energy
0E04B21A = Logistics Energy
0E04B21B = Science Energy
0E04B20F = Scrap Logistics

Update Edit: 0E0 has been changed to 0C0

On my fifth attempt (I'm now on number 7) I had everything done with the exception of an engineering job that required more staff than I had.. long story short.. I had a massive crash at Starlight and had to remove every scrap of game from my xbox. Second time that happened. First time I lost everything, including my day one, unmodded original character it took what felt like forever to get that much finished with the logistics energy issues and scrap logistics issues.. so saying I wanted to take a hammer to my Series X is an understatement lol
My 6th attempt has all kinds of issues with rooms only partially building or having the issue that says no rooms available (which is stairwell storage and other areas that are definitely available), sooo I started number 7.. I just want to finish the damn HQ then I'll leave Jake and his crew the hell alone if I need to.. because this whole thing is giving me a disorder.. maybe an aneurysm

with rooms only partially building
Once I actually got to build using those codes I posted, I noticed that stuff took a while to show up even after waiting in game for days, weeks and even a month. Stuff did slowly start to show up though. I even left HQ and went to another settlement where I found a bunch of settlers to recruit. So, I am about to start up and go back to HQ and put those settlers to work. Let's see If I can get this HQ build finished.

I'm on Xbox series X, so unfortunately I can't circumvent the issues in having. I'm hoping for a fix for Lupe soon. She is my largest frustration in HQ atm.
