Sounds like you got hit with the power grid workshop corruption bug. If it's not widespread yet, you can sometimes get away with a full gavel settlement nuke and then restart the settlement.

Nope, CTDs after a little while .Its a T3 sanctuary. Can I just leave this as it is or will this corrupt my other settlements as well in the future?

EDIT: Ok, I was able to scrap in Sanctuary again after disabling War of the Commonwealth. I guess there are just too many scripts going on with WotC and Sim Settlements, especially in Sanctuary, for the game to be able to scrap anything.

AFAIK, bUsePrecombinedObjects=0 is game wide. It's like being just a little bit pregnant, it's a game wide boolean.

Unless Build High 5.0 swaps the settlement cells with precombined off cells.

I'd be careful with anything that messes with precombined objects in any way, a lot of the settlement plans will have problems with that and they're straight up settlement builds.

I have not used RoTC. This was a basically non-touched Sanctuary and was looking at the new different style benches.

I started this in another thread, but since A: I've isolated this problem down to ye' Olde Scrap crash, and B: That was another guy's thread and I'd hijacked it quite enough, I figured I'd move on over to here.

My saga starts when I went to check out my Castle after it got upgraded to level 2, and would CTD every time. I am using the Spring Cleaning mod, and I did use it to sweep up a single errant pile of dust that was in one corner and was making the placement of one of my tables look weird. Disabling mods didn't help. It would crash even if every mod including Sim Settlements were disabled.

Eventually I reloaded from an older save just before The Castle upgraded. I managed to find a couple generators that I'd built to complete the retaking the Castle quest, and trying to destroy them or their wiring CTD me. I could move them, but that wasn't very helpful. So I burned the Castle to the ground. I was hoping with those generators gone, so would go my troubles.

Nope!

I used console commands to give it all the material it needed to upgrade, and then waited freaking HOURS for the settlement to decide it was ready to put on its bigboy pants and move up to a level 1. During that time, I tried building an armor crafting bench, which built fine. However when I tried scrapping it, CTD. Later, the settlement finally upgraded, at which point it CTD'd me every time I looked at it again. So I burned it to the ground. Again.

At this rate the place was probably better off when the monster fish were running things.

After that, I started experimenting.

I attempted to build a large generator. Instant CTD. I reloaded and built a small one. CTD. After that the load times started working my last nerve raw so I moved on. I built an armor bench. Worked fine. I scrapped it: CTD. I built a floor. When I scraped it, CTD.

So in conclusion, it looks like the castle is garbage now. Depressing, since that was the settlement I was most looking forward to seeing get all built up. I could paste my mod list, but I'm pretty sure all interest in that would begin and end with the Spring Cleaning mod and that pile of dirt I swept up.

Parameters:
New save, less than 16 hours. Has minimal time in Sanctuary. Minimal beds, food, water and defense for the gang (no more-no less). Build to Level 0 accomplished w/o issues. SS "asked" for more H2O. Went into workshop mode, choose small gen, then Bam! CTD. Repeatable. Left, came back few days later (LOL-in game days). Rinse and repeat.
Not running any "verboten" mods. No scrap mods, cleaning mods etc. Machine specs are high. 5960x, 2x 1080ti, 32GB, etc.etc. Used to work real good in 3.1. Following mods installed :

All of these ran well prior to installation of 3.2. Had no issues then other than occasional, "standard" CTDs.Will try a clean install, vanilla and will report back.
 
Narrowed it down to WotC and im "happy" to see im not the only one with the issue, since its more likely to get resolved this way.
(scrap/generator placement crash on t2 Sanctuary)

Guess when im editing my Sanctuary Hills ima have to turn off WotC and reenable it once im done. I know its quite bad to disable -> enable mods during the playthrough but i couldn't stand console commanding every single thing i want to add/edit.

I can't wait for the WotC 2 mod to be released (Spawns of the Commonwealth), seems to be designed to avoid most CTD issues WotC has atm.

I second this, tho i don't think its a script issue and more cell related (since WotC edits spawnpoints to cells it might have an issue how Sim Settlements handels the Cell specifically in sanctuary?
I don't have the issue in any other settlement.

I hope this information helps to narrow it down and maybe fix it, since i see both mods as quite essential to my playthroughs.

It's just awesome to see such a huge and impactful mod work without major issues on a 300+ mod playthrough <3

PS: If anyone is looking for an alternative, i uninstalled WotC and installed Endless Warfare + NPCs Travel, everything works like a charm, no crashes and fully customizable.

Yes, with Sanctuary hill with SS and RoTc installed, ctd while i placing a power generator
Able to scrap anything with no issue
 
I can scrap things just fine, but I CTD every single time I try to build a small generator at Nordhagen beach. Building wasteland workshop cages and stuff seems fine. I have the included city plan for it selected and Curie as leader of the city.
 
Scrapping anything or building something power related is an instant crash for me in Sanctuary. I've pretty much given up on a hope of manually building/scrapping things in Sanctuary now, but is there any way I can continue to let Sanctuary grow using the automated system? Currently, my game is crashing during the city upgrade process as well, as I assume the upgrade involves scrapping something. Is there any way I work around that?

Back again. Ok, ran everything from a way early (exiting the vault) save. DID NOT build in Sanctuary except basic plots, industrial plot etc. Can scrap, build etc. without issues. Went out and built ROTC cities elsewhere, again without any problems. 100 hrs into this run and I can still scrap and build anywhere without issues. I'm no expert, but deductively it seems like there's an issue that is Sanctuary born? Just to be sure, went back to my clean save again. Rebuilt Sanctuary with ROTC. Boom. First thing out the door, got a CTD when scrapping a generator. Two things here. With or without the above mods, I get CTD in the whole game if I ROTC Sanctuary. If I don't then everything seems to work just fine. Hope this helps.
 
Have the same issue.
Build up RedRocked its quite fresh.
Than i build an item.
On Scrap it hits the Desktop.
[i reload the savegame]...
If i Scrap indeed a pice of dirt one inch byside, it work fine.
If i try to move the build item => desktop...
It seems happen, if i scrap user build items.
 
Next Szenario: I select a new Building Plan on RedRocket and say all to tier down.
Than i go around for a radiant quest.
In case i come back to RedRocket, game crash to desktop
I come back in Two ways:
1) I fast travel to RedRocket => crash
2) I fast travel to Sanctuary, run by myself to RedRocket => crash
So i t indicates something what is happen in RedRocket is the reason for.
My feeling says: It is because "Tier all down" scrap something i manualy build. May the way the item was saved make it so essential.
There was not much build, just lvl zero City no upgrades on lowest settings.
My Computer has 8GM Graphics space and 32GM RAM so i pritty sure it is not just only a mem-leak...
If i can help with some additional information for debugging, just ask me for...

Able to scrap anything with no issue

Managed to fixed my power generator cotd by:

-download the latest 3in1 Sim Settlement mod
-open up halotape
-call out town meeting
-refresh plot data
-activate self destruction
-fast travel to other place

when i get back and place the power generator, no longer cotd, hope this help !
 
Registered here to see if there was an available fix for this problem. Currently only occurs in Starlight Drive In...since discovering that it was a scrapping bug, I've had the city demolished (it was lvl 0) and have taken the city back from the leader I assigned to it...anything I place in the settlement causes a CTD when I try to scrap it, items that were already there in the base game prior to activating the workshop scrap just fine...

I wonder if installing a Starlight Drive In overhaul would circumvent the problem until a fix is found...

EDIT: Nvm...this kinda bums me out...

I play on Xbox one and now only seeing this bug, its pretty annoying, it happends with anything I try to scrap, any idea how to fix?

Currently no known fix. It's a vanilla game bug that unfortunately manifests more frequently if you build too many workshop items - the City Plans tend to build a crazy amount so you will hit it more often using them.

I've wrapped up everything needed to research and fix it and sent it to Bethesda - no movement so far :(

So like no building till its fixed?
 
Only solution is to nuke the settlement and start again. It is recommended to run the less wires possible, so, if you are using a city plan, leave the Wireless plots alone.

And save in different slots everytime you build something :/
 
Hello there. I recently ran into CTDs with multiple settlements. First approaching Sanctuary (Level 2) caused my game to crash, but that sorted itself out by now. My newest CTD is now in Starlight (Level 0). Whenever I try to scrap something in the settlement, or change a plot it crashes. And when I try to upgrade to Level 1 it always crashes at the same spot, roughly estimating by the fly-over camera path.

Is it save to assume that I'm plagued by the Scrap Crash too? Should I just self-destruct the settlement, or leave it at level 0 and never touch it again?

Update: After experiencing CTDs in nearly all settlements now, I decided to abandon my savegame and start over. Not going to use the RotC function of SS on my new save for now. D:

Got the CTD today, repeatable but unfortunately I have a lot of mods.

What caused it on my computer was the Holotape option to destroy the entire settlement completely. Then anything I built after that would cause a CTD if I tried to scrap it. Settlement was Spectacle Island.

I'm manually going through and scrapping the build now and no problems. Even if I add something new and scrap it.

So my CTD is somehow linked to the Local Self Destruct (Full Charges) tool.
