Not a bug Gunner Outbreak Concerns

From what I saw in the trailer, it seems like the Gunners are just going to up and takeover my settlements, without even an option to fend them off.

Is that the case? I want to continue this mod but I don't want to lose my hard work on my settlements.

Which is alright. I'm just concerned over whether we HAVE to lose our settlements as part of the story or if there will be options.

Also, why is there a NOT A BUG tag added onto here? I never mentioned bugs.

No one knows yet. Well, I'd guess some do, but that would be a massive spoiler. I'm like 1000% sure you'll get the chance to fight and get those settlements back. Don't think anyone ever intended for you to lose your stuff forever.
NOT A BUG
Yes, some threads are just labelled that way. Dunno why.

Blink blink
Is... is there another trailer out there I don't know about? Or did rocker and I just see very different things in the same trailer?

The one that came out a couple weeks ago does show a Gunner Vertibird landing at Sanctuary, and Captain Wes giving a speech to the assembled settlers, with the settlement flag changing to The Gunners' logo.
I am willing to bet it will not happen like that in actual gameplay. I mean, an ingame scene requires the player be within range to trigger it... no way Wes would get more than a sentence into his speech before there is a .50cal round piercing his skull if that were the case - if the vertibird even survived long enough to land safely in the first place.

that would be so rude.... to the voice actor who I am sure worked very hard on that character's speech

Personally I’m hoping they crush me ( the players settlements and everything I’ve worked for in the mod ) and I have to start from square 1 to get it back and get an amazing jet induced gunner killing spree. Honestly anything different from my expectations and I’m stoked , same with being blindsided I’m always in for a good starting over from scratch.

im expecting this chapter to start with jake being kidnapped me an aiden trying to find him all while the new factions start moving in and we have to work with them restoring stuff and improving stuff. The settlement stuff I’m guessing may be the end of the chapter where we loose a settlement.

if any of this is on point sorry this is 100% my guessing so don’t consider this plot or real.

I mean, even taking that scene of the Vertibird landing as 100% guaranteed is a flawed assumption. For one, not everyone even uses Sanctuary, and those that do dont necessarily all scrap that one ruined house to clear the foundation they use as a landing pad, so forcing that one specific scenario is out. And a lot of other settlements wouldnt even have a nice open spot within 500 yards to land one of those things.

I was thinking it happens as we rescue Jake, so there is no way to prevent it. Then we gather forces, Old Paul opens his secret bunker full of GUNS and we fight. It could definately be interesting if by the end of story gunners are not completely wiped out and failing to defend a settlement could still lead to someone else gaining control of it.

the biggest setback would be that i have to move all my retired followers from sanctuary before installing it dont know if they would survive a capture or if they would keep on fighting the gunners till the end got my sniper budy on guard duty there and he aint to friendly with gunners!

Going to be hard for my game, as I shot up the Gunner HQ and took Capt Wes out... In fact everywhere I have gunners showing up, I take them out.

I understand that much. It's just what it did show makes me concerned, is all.
Aye, im not in ‘the know’ but i have enough faith in our devs to give us ample tools and means to fight back an incoming take-over by gunners, additionally i believe there will be ways to take them back if you didnt have the chance to save the settlement through usual means of warfare, such as frontal assaults with your friends in the wasteland (ie: Minutemen, BoS, insitute, railroad, Raiders if you’ve done Nuka World?) subversion of enemy gunners through bribes and blackmail, and straight up infiltration through having some of your settlers going through surgery and then kidnap targets within the structure of the Gunners

fallout has tons of ways to do warfare, and im sure the devs know of these things

That could be as well and makes for an interesting theory. Only reason I say it’s an end of chapter thing is because it would leave on a big cliffhanger. Assuming you spend 90% of the mod trying to find jake and meeting new factions then you find jake but a settlement is taken. Leading to part 3 of course being revenge.

but your way assuming we get info about location within a quest or two would give us new mechanics to get into on our way through the chapter.

either way this is still 100% me making wild guesses , and if any is correct it’s all after the fact since I have no info on upcoming stuff.

I would not assume everything will happen in sanctuary , sanctuary was probably just used as a location that had enough room for all the video and stuff they needed to do. But we will see in a month or two.

Same, but captain Wes etc will probably appear anyway. Wiping gunners out on the entire map is like the highlight of all my games.

We gotta be careful with our expectations. This is just too amazing to be true. If it turns out like this, I'll eat my hat, but a simple frontal assault with some decent story is already miles better than what we got in vanilla.
Also we already got a hint of gunners infighting during "Vim and vigor" (final part)... Easy to miss since they go hostile the moment they see you.

Yeah, that little conversation is nigh impossible to overhear unless you've got maximum stealth already by that point. I'd bet 99% of players of the mod didn't even know it was there. (especially since, as this thread re-proves, "shoot on sight" is standard procedure for Gunners)

Yes, I for one didn't hear it, cause I always sniped the gunners from the other side of the bridge.

If you stand by the chain link fence, you can overhear their conversation. I really like the dialog when you play as a female.
When big dumb asks "how do you know this ain't the guy we're lookin for" and the other guy says "because, she's a WOMAN!" :rofl

I assumed Antoine was talking about a different one: (the two nameless Gunners standing over the corpse of the "scout" you get sent to find from Vault 81)

Oh! Yeah, I have not taken the time to actually listen to them. I think if you approached them from the west you could sneak in and listen. Now I have something to do....
