[Foundations][PC] Settlers keep falling through the foundations

In an effort to level out the area within Sanctuary i scrapped the bunch and began dropping in the concrete foundations all throughout. This was going fine until i noticed that some settlers had fallen through the foundations. I will rescue them by removing the blocks and get them out, then dropping in the blocks again only to come back later and notice that they have dropped through again.

It seems to have randomly in many different places.

Any suggestions?

It's been my experience that this happens most often when there is a gap below the blocks you're placing. To correct this, lay a first layer of blocks closer to the ground, then overlay the blocks at the correct height so they overlap slightly. That should curb most of the settlers inside of stuff behavior.

You're not going to be able to get rid of it entirely. Sometimes they just spawn at ground level when you enter the settlement and stand there like idiots until you come talk to them, then they pop up to ground level and go about their business.

Wow, that makes a little sense..and kinda sucks for me :)

I'll give it shot though and see if i can test it out. Thanks!

I don't know many times I've thought about kicking that head sticking up out of the concrete. Sometimes running up and bumping into them makes the AI get with the program anyway.

Yup, normal spawn fun. As soon as they decide to walk anywhere, they'll teleport back up to the concrete. What pavement is that? It looks like one of the vanilla ones and I've had a lot of "fun" with those in the past. Using the puzzle pieces is < 20 polys vs over 400 for the vanilla parts and at least on the surface, they appear far less buggy. You're still going to see this behavior with them but at least it won't overdrive your computer doing it.

Let me know when you notice it raining cows - Provisioners and other cows in the settlement who load in when you do apparently by dropping from orbit.

One interesting bug I've run into is after transfer settlements is complete, sometimes it can bug out and load an image for a piece but not the collision mesh so parts become a hologram of the original item. This happened when I exported and reimported my Finch farm build from one game to another and was walking around up on the building on the bridge... You can probably guess how it went down from there.

I was using, primarily, the concrete 1x1 foundation included in the JTBryant Foundations pack.

Not sure what the poly count is for those honestly. I've had some times where i could bump them and they would zip right up. Others where i could stand on their heads and they wouldn't go anywhere. Wouldn't even wander away.

Leveling out Sanctuary was quite a task, so it may take me a while to square it away. I'll try and start with the problem areas though and see if i can drop an additional foundation down below the blocks. *fingers crossed*

Those are the low poly foundations.

This one's kind of the nuclear option - open console, click the settler embedded in the ground and type "moveto player" without the quotes. They'll pop up out of there quick.

From the heights of the derps sticking up out of the blocks, I don't think sinking additional blocks is going to help.

If you're on console, build a bell or use a town meeting gavel to get them to run to you if they can and teleport to you if they can't.

There is the Town Meeting option in the Sim Settlements holotape in tools. Also the Town Meeting Gavel item that can be crafted.

Oh man, i used the Town Meeting option in the holotape and that was an amazing journey. Everyone assembled correctly, i did what i wanted to do, then went off to do some quests. Came back to the city and a good third of the population was stuck in the foundations where they were assembled for the Town Meeting.

Could there be a problem with the collision on the foundations or do you think it is just the spawning that is happening?

They're remembering where they were when they despawned.

Think of it this way, you call the meeting, they move to where they need to be and you run out of the cell far enough that it unloads. Concrete goes first, then the settlers.

Saves location state.

When you pop back in, it loads in reverse. Settlers load, then the concrete. Much fun ensues until they move, realize they're underground and decide teleportation to reset their understanding of where the ground plane is.

I'm not saying by any means that this is absolutely how it works, anecdotal observations are mine alone.
