Question Fixed Sanctuary CTD but still need help

So basically I run into the infamous CTD in Sanctuary LvL 1 after RR got to LvL 1 (RoTC Plans). Essentially I was unable to enter Sanctuary all together.

After a little bit of searching I managed to find a working solution by one of the SS chaps; I reduced the multi threading from the performance tab to 5 and woila, I was able to enter Sanctuary (albeit with a bit of stutter that goes away after a couple of seconds)

Here's the thing: SS is like, one of the reasons I am enjoying FO4 that much and the city plans are literally my reason to invest time in settlements all together!

So my question is this: Should I allow my settlements to further progress LvLs or am I risking more CTDs and save corruption even with multi threading of 5 or less?

I really want to see Sanctuary LvL 3 as well as the rest of my settlements if possible. I thought my PC was up to scratch for this task, so now I am wondering what is the right thing to do in my situation ?

For reference: CPU: Ryzen 1800x OCed to 4Ghz RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 gb GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce Xtreme Edition SSD: Samsung EVO NVMe M2. 1tb, Playing in
3840 x 2160 resolution and using BRB's Load order.

Sanctuary, Red Rocket, and Abernathy Farm all building at the same time will pose a problem commonly called the triangle of doom. As each levels up you'll experience crashes because the three settlements are so close together. Parts of each load when you're in one or the other. This happens even on a capable PC like yours. The base game just can't deal with it.

I'd suggest tearing down Red Red Rocket. Abernathy and Sanctuary coexist fine on my i5 4460 and GTX 960 2GB.

First of all thank you for taking the time to respond to my enquiry I really appreciate that.

I understand what you are saying, the proximity is just too much for the machine to load simultaneously all of those triangles the game loves to deal with.

I have 2 questions however: do you have level 3 Abernathy and sanctuary? I would be happy to compromise with those 2 while tearing down RR.

My other question is : what's the role of multi-threading from the holotape performance tab? Why did it actually stop my CTD as soon as I lowered it? Is it like a temporary measure?

I've had both Abernathy and Sanctuary both at level 3. It's not too much for a PC with specs like yours, but more a limitation of the game engine.

FO4 uses a scripting engine Bethesda calls Papyrus to do things in-game. Papyrus is threaded and SS makes heavy use of it. Cities should build and refresh a bit faster when threaded city builds is enabled. The crash was most likely caused by RR and Sanctuary building at the same time, I'd wager. Too many threads trying to start and stop. If setting threaded city builds to auto was the cause, that'd be a bug and more people would be posting about it by now.

That person in steam forums stated he was part of the SS support team and that this could potentially fix the issue. I wonder if it was circumstantial but I did see difference after dropping multi-threading

In that case I guess tearing down RR will allow me to put multi-threading to auto once again.

I feel much more confident after hearing that my PC is capable to deal with this. There was another person that suggested that only 2080 ti and the latest processor by intel could handle (i9 something) the mod at full blown settings without CTDs. I guess that's not quite true.

I have my SS settings set to ULTRA. Is it okay for me to carry one with those settings?
Oh and are you using RoTC city plans or contest ones and have them level 3?

I have a very high-end PC and encountered this with Red Rocket.

Solution: looking down at the ground to lessen graphics load, I walked as close as I could, quick saving along the way until the game crashed, reloaded, turned my back to the settlement in order to lessen graphics load, opened the settlement's options menu on my pipboy and tore down the settlement. Upon rebuilding, I had no further issues.

I just logged on here to see if there were any new developments on the triangle of doom. I suppose it looks like I can just avoid using red rocket, then. It was a little strange that two settlements were so close anyway, I suppose.
