Fallout 76

So this is just a thread to discuss the latest Fallout game, even though Sim settlements won't be going anywhere near it, I assume. I just wanted to know the thoughts of other members here on the game.

I only started playing it myself. Truth be told, I was scared because I thought there would be a lot of PVP and griefing going on. Which would totally ruin the immersive feeling of being a vault dweller whose mission was to leave the vault and rebuild civilization. To me, roleplaying my character is a major part of the fallout universe.. without that, it's just a shooting game.

To my surprise, most players were actually very nice and cooperative, even though none of us formed teams yet. of course in the starting area most of us were very new to it all, which added to the immersive feeling that we were all vault newbies still wrapping their heads around this new radioactive world we found ourselves in.
So far, impressions are actually quite good. Although it does feel like a online version of Fallout 4, without all of the familiar npcs.

I'm finding I'm having too many flashbacks to MMOs which makes it hard for me to get immersed in the game and just enjoy the escape. My two key gripes being that other players are no replacement for NPCs, and the respawning NPCs.

The couple times I've avoided other players and didn't hit quickly respawning NPCs, I found myself loving it. So obviously the first two things I want to mod into the game are voiced humanoid NPCs and changing the way respawns work!

It's definitely no replacement for FO4 right now, I'm sticking with it as a side-hobby until I get to the end-game to see if I enjoy the game enough to mod it. The potential for modding an online version of Fallout appeals to me deeply.

I like it for now :)
Playing it like a mystery trying to find out what happened to the people from before
reminds me of the original omega man.

I don't lnow about reply value all depends what beth comes up with for future updates.

PVP isn't a issue except for the guy I killed lol.
I fast travel into a guy who was swinging his weapon and at nothing and got hit in the face so I killed him then ran away like a little girl hehe (he was alt tabbing I guess )

I really hope for private servers soon down the road. the players I met are nice so far, but I'm not naive enough to think that won't change. I'd like to limit my games to friends only, for instance, which would really give me peace of mind. I know that the majority of my friends wouldn't randomly nuke places for the lulz of it without the other players being okay with it, or try to destroy whatever I built.

plus, I noticed that the more players were online the more my game lagged. so there's that too.

and yes, I agree that players aren't good replacements for npcs. there's npc enemies out there, but it's not quite the same.

One thing that bugs me is, if you die in power armor but are overloaded when *not* in PA you can't respawn.
The only solution is to exit and restart. At one point I was overloaded in PA by 3 lbs. and it took 4 tries before I could dump enough junk to run away. Kept spawning in the middle of a crap ton of enemies.

And trying to make friends with a Legendary Deathclaw was a PIA! Lord they run fast!

You know me... I HATE power armor! The more skin the better! LOL!
The NPC AI sucks! They can shoot through well.. anything, or just stand there while you shoot the crap out of them.
First time I killed Gossamer he just stood there.

It does seem like they tweaked the respawn rate. At least it's not as bad now.. maybe cause of more players?

Or better, a offline version of the game, one that can be easily modded. meanwhile the online version would ban mods. I think that would be a good way to allow for mods in 76 without making it unfair against other players out there.

Maybe should have played to the fans with this one as just a prequel expansion of FO4. I’ll play it as a snack, before a meal of off line modded FO4, with Companions, Settlers, Building and Sim Settlements.

This could have been much more fun just giving this huge world space to the mod community in a single player configuration and an open ended story to push it along.

hahha, I could have tolerated Preston 2.0.... The Minutemen Invade WV to recover nuclear weapons before Super Mutants obliterate something. hahaha, and Piper is a hostage or something....help Curi find a cure. Oh anything. Shoot now I am sad :shok1 oh what could have been, and endless expansion of settlements with a faction war and the protagonist needs to bring peace and unity by whatever means?

That is a great cartoon!

Hmm, yeah. And they could've had just done a CO-OP version for this fallout 4 expansion too, with one player acting as the host while friends joined using a LAN server. That way they didn't have so many players overloading and lagging the game down. That way you only play with players you know, etc.

After all, 76 seems to be just a online version of fallout 4, with the autumn trees mod from nexus added in for good measure. I do like the fact that the trees are more vibrant and alive in 76, as compared to fallout 4.... but again, I could've got that too with mods.

So far I''ve been pretty lucky just a few on the servers and not really any lag. But you can tell when it starts to hit the limit.

the only lag I have got was inside the airport building , out side is fine.
with all the trees around I thought it wud kill my game but for me it runs smoother than fallout 4 ;)

another thing I noticed? No chat boxes. I'm deaf, so... mics do nothing for me. So far I can get by on emotes, but I can foresee some terrible misunderstanding by other players if they tried to tell me something though mics and I didn't respond to it.

I don't think Bethesda understands online games very much at all.

Ha - we don't have any settlers!

Right now I'm just going to fix things I can that are annoying me during my, very slow, play through.

Speaking of this, 76 visuals of the wasteland are beautiful. Anyone try the mod adding this (the trees and environment) to Fallout 4?

-- I couldn't find the nexus link... if anyone has it?

The mod I mentioned was something that existed long before fallout 76.

This one. I use this in game, which helps makes things look more beautiful while at the same time retaining that wasteland feeling.
Notice how this 2017 mod looks very similar to the trees in fallout 76? :)

There's also this 2018 mod, which adds all seasons that you can pick and choose from:

Been thinking of switching over to this one, and using the Summer mod. I always liked summer best out of all seasons. :p
