Dropping Sim Settlements

At this point in time Sim Settlements seems too broken and nonfunctional. I'm constantly having issues with load order and incompatibilities in the settlement build menu with it. I'm probably going to have to start a brand new game as I can't find any way to fix the missing menu items. Nor am I getting any support in this forum. I've asked a few questions and haven't received a single response.

Please fix the compatibility issues with Horizon, Thematic and Practical, and the other construction sets (Homemaker, Snap'n'Build, etc) and provide an appropriate mod that works with the Menu Mod Manager so we can actually correct missing menu items, or better yet make it so that Sim Settlements is compatible with SKE.

Sorry, if we didn't notice to reply to your question. I was out of town over the weekend and I mostly check Bugs section, when I have the time. I try to visit Help section as well, but looks like your question slipped away.

I am not exactly sure what problems you are seeing with Thematic and Practical or other construction sets. I am using both SEK and Thematic and Practical in my game. Could you elaborate what issues you are seeing with them, because there are no known conflicts.

Is it possible that your problems are related to attempt to merge files? As you said: you didn't encounter any issues with original ESP files, which does hint that problem would be in either compatibility of files you selected, or process that was used.

You are definitely not supposed to be merging horizon... I can tell you that for one thing... MA even states... don't do that...

I can attest that I have used all of the mentioned mods together with absolutely no issues at all... outside of SKE... which I haven't installed in over 2+ years... people still use that? hah!

Typo, for typing before coffee. I meant SKE. :hi

I am mostly using it to keep OWR stuff away from other menus. I like that stuff, but I don't want to scroll hour and half each time I want to get something from menus without SKE.

Im 2 up! must mean im awake now...... nope!

This is a very strange report. Sim Settlements intentionally does not alter the build menu at all to avoid the compatibility issues you are describing.

All menu injection is done through Settlement Menu Manager. If you have that installed, you can use the holotape to repair the build menu.

We are absolutely compatible with all the mods you listed. If we weren’t, there would be hundreds of bug reports by now as those are all popular mods.

After I installed Horizon Sim Settlements broke and Thematic and Practical disappeared from my menu. Uninstalling Horizon didn't fix it, and reinstalling Sim Settlements, both the 3-1 update and the prior version doesn't fix it. I've checked load order and tried to fix issues with it. But manual manipulation to move Horizon to the bottom of the list causes CTDs and save game corruption.

The only files I tried to merge with FO4Edit were Sim Settlement add-ons to reduce load order bloat. This didn't work either. And Settlement Menu Manager causes CTDs when enabled, the few times I got the game to behave with it, I couldn't actually use it as the Holotape disappears.

It's one bug after another.

Notably this all started to happen after the lastest FO4 update and F4SE update. I was able to merge several Sim Settlement addons into one .esp, but then I got a timeloop error which caused me to get a ton of items until my game crashed. Which prompted me to try to fix these issues.

I've merged and edited a lot of mods. As soon as I hit that edit/merge button, I look at it like voiding the warranty, which I do with darn near everything! LOL
My suggestion is to start a vanilla game with just SS and SMM installed. Then start adding your other mods until one breaks stuff. I'd start with your merged ones as they are the most likely suspect.

The workshop menus can be very sensitive, which is why I only inject with SMM. It's pretty common that the menus will break as you add and remove mods. Though they are also one of the easiest things to fix.

If Settlement Menu Manager isn't working for you, you can try one of these options to repair it:
Fixer file on this page)
I tried both of those, neither have fixes for Sim Settlement's menu. All other menu items are there. just not sim settlements.

I've got Thematic and Practical, Snap 'N Build, Homemaker, Workshop Rearranged and a few others that add/modify workshop menus from other sites (Torture Devices - requirement for another mod) as well as SKE. I've had no issues with the Sim Settlements menu - occasionally had others disappear but the normal fixes for those worked but usually my saves were a bit dodgy by that time.

I don't, however, have Horizon installed - I have too many other settlement, crafting mods as well as WeaponSmith Extended etc. I don't generally merge mods (at present I only have 2 mods merged relating to barricades/fortifications) but I am towards the upper limit (246 mods (not counting the 50 or so ESL's I have installed.)

Sim Settlements menu requires SMM. All of the SS items will be dispersed through the other menus if you are unable to use SMM. For example, plots will be under Special.

After I installed Horizon Sim Settlements broke and Thematic and Practical disappeared from my menu.
So, to confirm, Sim Settlements worked before you installed Horizon?

I'd like you to try something. Uninstall Horizon. Then, load a save from before you installed Horizon.

I expect that you'll find your menu's are correct.

Now, the last time I used Horizon, they were very firm in their directions that Horizon was for new games only.

I'd like you to reinstall Horizon exactly as directed on their page, and start a new game. This means do the entire prewar cinematic, run to the vault, and the tedious vault tutorial. You should be able to unlock the Sanctuary workshop as soon as you leave the vault. Confirm that the Thematic and Practical menu is present. I expect it will be.

At this point, you can quickly get the city manager holotape from the museum of freedom. Activate the holotape, and head back to Sanctuary. You should see the Sim Settlements menu when you enter build mode.

I think the issue for LordRelentless is that Settlement Menu Manager is crashing the game. So without that, there is no Sim Settlements menu.

Hi OP. I feel you. At the end of December I took a five month break because my game kept crashing. Only myself to blame because I break all the rules. I hot-swap mods mid-play and use a few mods that i was warned against. This was hard for me because I had invested over 2000 hours in 32 separate characters.

Eventually, I did a full re-install of F4 with all new characters and I am having a ball again. Don't give up. If you need to, bite the bullet and do a clean install. You'll thank yourself.
