Do I have to use City Plans?

I did the one required City Plan so far for the story progression quest & utterly hate it. There are no walls around the settlement. I've been looking through all the options & I've yet to find one that does have walls around the settlement. Since all the settlements I build always use stacked foundations as perimeter walls like a fortified settlement I would like to verify that I won't be required to use the City Plans anymore?

That is the only point in the story that "requires" you to use one. It's supposedly possible to get that quest to complete without using one at all, but I've never gotten it to work.

After that one no others require it. Personally I hate walled settlements that was my one dislike of ss1 city plans I doubt is settlers are supposedly to dumb to build stuff that they could build a whole wall. But that’s just how I like it and I normally build my own settlements , I even posted a few of them to nexus so if you build something cool post it up so we can try it.

I do like walls in some though like taffingtion boathouse has to be walled that way them crazy people next door can’t come in.

Walls are kinda useless as it is, whenever there's a raider attack they just ignore them and spawn in. Not to mention build limits. Though they do give some illusion of fortification and look cool maybe, sometimes. But, this is all a matter of preference. You can probably build walls around a settlement that has a city plan if that's what you really want.

I get that most settlers wouldn't have the know how to build walls, but in my opinion it's the main character that is the catalyst for change & improvement of the commonwealth. Walled settlements would be something that would be needed for better defense. Sadly though, the defense portion of the settlement only really applies to the offensive capabilities of each settlement & not it's basic defense. Which thick high walls would be the most basic example. In a civilization with a police force and no roving bands of Raiders, Gunners & monsters then I would understand why walls weren't needed. I guess for me a walled settlement is more of an immersion aspect since they don't count towards defense. Thanks for the info though. I'm glad I don't have to use City Plans.

I feel that if this were all real then walled settlements would be something that would be needed for better defense. Sadly though, you are correct & enemies sometimes spawn inside the walls. I often put turrets facing inwards for this very reason. The defense portion of the settlement only really applies to the offensive capabilities of each settlement & not it's basic defense. That’s the nice thing with rpg everybody can play the way they like.

In my last game (BoS, Survival), my walls stopped the entry of the assaulting forces about 90% of the time, for example to the best of my memory:
1. Sunshine - robots from the northwest, mutants from the northeast and gunner from the southeast
2. Red Rocket - mutants from the west and east, and gunners and ghouls along the road from the southeast,
3. Starlight - synths from the southwest and raiders from northwest
4. County Crossing - raiders from the armory, ghouls from the west and synths from the armory
5. Oberland - gunners from the northwest
Below are several images regarding the walls (note: at Starlight the synths were shooting at me on top of the screen)

However, it is good to save before the assault, in case the assault does spawn inside the walls.

My biggest problem with assaults is - my settlers charge out to meet the enemy, see image - just couldn't stay in the BoS defensive walls, had to run to the armory, but the settler "died with his boots on" :this, see image:

Also, I use the Better Settlers mod (mortal and stimpacks). (Note: if anyone knows a mod that changes settler behavior during an assault, maybe similar to FO New Vegas companions, I would appreciate it).

The build limit can be changed at each individual workbench - Manage/Configure Build Limit.

PS: at County Crossing here are four spawn points outside the walls, see images:

Where did you get that wickedly cool giant rail gun looking thing in the back center of the first image? That is awesome!

That's the base mod hi-tech 2x2 martial plot.
Also this is pretty sick but only works if you're really early to an attack or walk there every time (I guess it's the only unmodded option for survival)

To add a'bit, the hitech martial plot, laser cannon platform. After 3 months off, I just started a new game, but previously the laser cannon never worked for me even though I was early, but may be not "real" early. :grin Finally, switched to the Intergalactic Planetary hitech martial plot - several aliens on top of a disk, zapping the bad guys.

Don't think either of them do anything for me but maybe I just need to progress nuka-world to make stuff perform properly. Got a bunch of plots from Jampads but most are broken.

I use More Attackers - Get Off My Build Zone so to prevent attacks inside my settlement
Just searched Nexus and "Not found The mod you were looking for couldn't be found" Did you get this from Nexus and if so what is the mod number?

Thanks

Looks like another mod comes off my list. It's the nexus dibacle striking again I guess. Author must have pulled it. Or I use the copy I have and get no support or updates.

I get their whole this is my baby I’m should be able to blah blah blah angle of the argument. But im On the side of anything once released on the internet is no longer your property. Imagine Bethesda posted a game 4 months prior to release online , full game you could download and play it , then the day of launch they said of shit we screwed up just kidding delete this from your hard river and pay us cause we screwed up.

this is exactly what’s going on modders are paywalling their stuff now behind patrons and discord’s that require a payment to get to. You should not create something release it to the world the say just kidding that’s gone now. I’ve made a folder and added a bunch of stuff I was using to save.

this is also on nexus they could have done better about this but they took the kids way of this is mine not yours way. Also this goes to show who the real men and ladies of the modding community are and I appreciate them for releasing more stuff for me to enjoy even after all this.

sorry this was not exactly on topic but it kinda pisses me off on both sides cause everybody acting like kids and taking stuff away from others. Hopefully everybody will chill in a few months and both sides can relax a little.

And that attitude right there is why I deleted my own mods off Nexus and am no longer going to release anything to the general public.

I got no attitude About it I can see both sides I just stand on the side of why make something Release it then remove it so others can’t use it any longer cause you’re mad. It’s short sided and I agree nexus took the wrong way to do this but deleting or paywalling your stuff isn’t the right way either.

on a side note anything I release or do will never be removed once I put it out online I give it away and leave open permissions as long as work is acknowledged i don’t care what’s done with it. I have a few city plans that I’ll release soon as well once I’m happy with them and think they are good enough for use by others.

you do you though personal works are private and if not released that’s all good to , I make a lot of my own patches and little things that I’d never release.

What I meant is how entitled you are coming across, you say its up to me but at the same time insult anyone who doesnt have this one stance and that every mod maker owes YOU for no reward or praise or even acknowledgement.
