Connecting Settlements with Caravan Services

I'm doing a playthrough without Local Leader, so I'll be dependant on Caravan Services to link my settlements. In past playthroughs, however, I've run into crippling amounts of user error when trying to use them. Could someone explain in small words how I get my Caravan Services buildings to level up and link?

Caravan Services2+ Settlements, 1 Level 1 Municipal PlotAutomatically links to other nearby settlements with Caravan Services
above is from the wiki... https://wiki.simsettlements2.com/gameplay/plots-and-plans/municipal

Build a caravan plot in each settlement after they are unlocked.
The plots will level up over time, same as any other SS2 plot type.
They should link automatically.
There is a range limit on how far the 'virtual resources' will connect.... the limit is about the distance from Sanctuary to Starlight Drive-in.
Sanctuary > Starlight Drive-In > Graygarden > Hangmans Alley > Jamaica Plains > Castle.... all will connect in the caravan loop
So as you expand your territory of control, try not to skip settlements that will create too large of a gap.

hope this helps

The range limits do help. Is there a listing anywhere of what conditions/materials are needed to level up the various plots? Is the time required a matter of days or months? I ask because I've had playthroughs in the past where I went from late October to January in-game and saw no changes to my Caravan Services plot. I had connected the settlements there with Local Leader, but my Services plot in Sanctuary constantly said it was out of range even though I had a second Services plot built at Red Rocket.

Again, I'm figuring this is all user error on my part, and I'm too busy stomping on people in my power armor to get it right. Thank you for the help :)

Do settlements linked by caravan services create lines on my pipboy map like vanilla supply lines so I know which ones are linked?

Caravans I have them created in settlements but I do not see them on the roads or in the settlements, why?
They don't travel back and forth like Provisioners do. They only leave the settlement if you tell them to - either by asking for "fast travel", or sending them on a Salvage Beacon run. Then they do walk to where you sent them and back again.
They should stay at their Caravan Plot during the 'work hours', but there seems to be an issue with them being able to 'pathfind' into the seat on the core mod's Caravan Plot, so they might just be standing around somewhere in the settlement.

Can you do a mix of local leader and caravan plots to share the virtual resources? Or does it have to be done through caravan services only? Namely to link up in the 'triangle of death'.

The vanilla 'provisioners' don't share the Virtual Storage along their link between settlements. Only the Caravan Plots do that.

Honestly as long as you have a industrial plot in each settlement you won’t ever have issues with materials to upgrade and maintain stuff. I do like 2-3 building material plots in sanctuary , then next place gets a plot that builds organics , then next is machine marts , then next is something else. Building that way ensures as you unlock the new material industrial plots you can build them as you go and have materials when needed.

Is there any advantage to having both provisioner plot and assigned settler caravan?

Where are the caravan plots? I cant find them anywhere. I'm new and having a hard time with this mod. I don't know what I'm doing. I cant link settlements in the vanilla way either. I have the perk, but when I assign a settler nothing happens. I'm getting frustrated.

Caravans are a subtype of Municipal.

Seeing as it's related, I've got a caravan plot in Oberland, Greygarden, Starlight and Sunshine tidings and all them say no other services in range. Is there something I'm missing or maybe a bug? (maybe even a problem with my save)

Edit: Before anyone asks, yes they're all manned. Starlight and Sunshine have the SS2 2x2, Greygarden has the interior and oberland has the Puloski 1x1.
