Resolved [Casting a Line] not initializing after completion of [If I Had a Hammer]

Hi. So the issue here is not that a stage in [Casting a Line] won't trigger, but that the quest itself won't, even though [If I Had a Hammer] seems to resolve normally.

Here's an unlisted recording of the issue:

Download the newest hotfix 1.0.0J from the latest patch section of the forums. Also hud framework needs to be loaded above ss2. I’m guessing this is just an issue with the older version of the game cause I had a few issues on the earlier ones to. Other then that I don’t see anything that sticks out as a mod that would screw anything up. look for the hot fix Here

Appreciate it. I'll apply the changes and see how they work out.

EDIT: Still no dice. Hm. I wonder if loading an earlier save or starting a new game would rectify the issue.

At the end of your video you were on the right track. I've had problems trying to talk to Jake that way. For some reason he just keeps giving the bird and going back to his beloved ASAMs.

If you go to the other side of Jake, you can talk to him. I've had to hit 'E' to talk to him up to 3 times. (Him and those ASAMs....) The other benefit of talking to him from the other side (from your video) is it helps prevent a glitch in the very next scene.

My other advice is to hard save before every quest. You never know when the engine is going to pull a trick out of the bag.

Sure. I believe this is the most recent save I have before starting [If I Had a Hammer]. I think it might actually precede the entire questline since this was before I turned in the Starlight Drive-in quest to Preston. Let me know if you want one during [If I Had a Hammer] itself.

Well, I'm not sure it's even Jake's fault since I'm guessing he wouldn't be able to really say anything until [Casting a Line] is active.

Talking to him is what starts casting a line.

I would go with that save.

I am pretty sure Casting a Line is going to start from one of the stages during one of the final stages of [If I had a Hammer.]
So it is reason to believe the flaw is you skipped a stage somewhere in there?

You can use console ShowQuestObjectives SS2_Sirick_MQ02 (I think that is the second one) as a monitor for the quest stages and them being completed.
This console command is not going to mess with anything since it is only a data output.

Talking to him is what starts casting a line.
The problem with quest scripts is he could have broken an earlier stage somehow. Like the Assign 5/5 or 8/8 and it broke there, but does not show it broke until later. Which is why the modders are telling people to not use console commands to skip around stages.

If you can not find the issue after the next try or two I would start a new game. If you do not care about your current game just do it from the vault exit.

On a side note...you have a settlement defense going on in that video...you might wanna get a better notification system.
This creates a pop up window when an attack occurs to let you know. It is especially handy against missing the message in the upper left corner, and the fact those messages bug and go blank.

Vault 81 is where he first showed up to give his initial dialogue while the Starlight Drive-In Recruitment Beacon was active, shortly after I completed [Hole in the Wall] from the main game. I kinda assumed he just ran to wherever my current location was.

Chase try do a normal playthrough running a new save or starting at a settlement. let me know how it goes!

Since this save is so far back i will try it again at some point. but honestly, i think the issue was the way you started it.. idk

Yeah, since then I've updated and started a new game. Things seem to be going off without a hitch.

Thanks for this advice - I also had to squeeze my character between Jake and the wall to trigger the conversation. After that everything went smoothly.
