Casting a Line and catching bloat flies.

Twice now during the casting a line quest the near by bloat fly spawn has attacked the raiders and hostages. One time the raiders killed all the hostages the other I attacked the raiders from behind and dropped them with out any hostage dying. How ever this cause Old Paul to wander off before I got a chance to speak to him.

Old Paul does nothing I know of once he meets at the spot. I have done the quest five times.

The marker for him is still there I guess I did not follow him closely enough. (I play on survival so I took a nap before I chased after him) The quest marker is also still on the now dead raider.

So basically you charged ahead when they were fighting the bloat flies and skipped over waiting for him and Jake?

The only settler that dies aint even yours, unless you messed with their protection status.

Fun fact: that one "unique" raider is always standing there at that spot if SS2 is active as a mod, including without even starting the Jake questline, but marked as Friendly until the questline changes that... tempted to try icing him before that quest to see what happens.

Ah, yes, Blaze. I mentioned him on a Suggestion post before - went back on that same save file to see if he's moved. Now he's setting with his hands tied, but otherwise hasn't gone farther than four or five feet.

Oh I killed him (the raider who spawned in before the encounter) I came upon him from the other direction while fighting the random spawn in the camp on the hill above the encounter area, The spawn was raiders fighting a bear and I used grenades to kill them and hit him when the bear got to close to him. This also bugged the quest later. I am wondering if he will respawn at some point but with the survival mode respawn timers this may take awhile.

In the mean time Old Paul has walked back to the settlement. He tells me not to "Get all Gung Ho those raiders have hostages" Also "The Stranger" now follows me around like the old Ack Ack bug from Conqueror.

As for the settlers they all died including mine. ( I dress my settlers in Vault Suits and leather armor so I know which ones are mine at a glance) As far as I know I have made no changes to their protected status. Note I am reloading the save and playing it over and over to test it. In my latest save the Raiders have Lilly as a hostage and a settler dressed in a Drifters outfit so I am guessing he is the one who is supposed to die. How ever this is the bloat fly encounter and all the raiders are dead.

I've only done this quest once. I looked at all the raiders and it looked like they could easily kill all of them if I chose the hard line. So I paid the ransom {first time ever). The settlers went on their merry way and the raiders stuck around. Whenever I passed them, they didn't aggro and just kept killing the bloat flies and other unpleasant creature. Handy, I thought.

I did this as well I see them every so often chasing squirrels and rabbits ( mods I have loaded ) or fighting the bloat flies.
