Barracks

I remember the barracks working like a week or two ago. Now, I'm having the issues described above.

Sorry guys but I take a very long test period. I was on the double check when I saw this post. I tested it on my end because no one has reported this problem. I figured it was on my end. Maybe a load order or another mod. I am sorry if I am trying to figure out if it is actually on the creators end. Next time should I just dump it on the creator without making sure it is on my end first. You know take responsibility that it could be me with 100+ mods? I am seriously wondering.

I would pose it with as much information as possible so they (who know more ) can direct you in what you should try

It wouldnt hurt to start a dialog with the developer who can likely tell you where it's going wrong off the top of his or her head based on the symptoms. It could be a bug in the mod, your load order, the fact that you just stuffed 110 settlers into sanctuary and caused your save file to just crap out 9 cows and 3400 and counting ammo boxes like mine did, or any number of a million other things.

Bring it anyway because if you keep the problem to yourself and more importantly, keep the solution to yourself, the next person to have the same problem won't have what you know to guide them so they're going to start from square one.

Tank. Thank you for your advise and opinion. Kicker. Thank you for your advise and opinion. You do it your way I will do it mine. If and or when I hit a wall and get stumped with something that appears only I am suffering from I will request help and open a dialog.

P.S Ok I just did a reread of what I posted and I wish to say this. I do not intend to come off as a arrogant A hole. I do appriciate the advice you guys are giving. So thank you.

So what exactly are you asking then? You're free to play your game however you like, but you took the time to post a question that we tried to answer with the best advice we could, only to get shut down with "you do it your way and I'll do it mine".

If you're intentionally going for sarcasm and trolling, you're going to have to be a lot less subtle.

Ask for help or not as you choose, but don't be a dick to those trying to help you, kay?

Oh that might have been mistaken. I was stating it as a question. Since troubleshooting usually involves finding out if it is on my end first I was trying to state that I should instead of even trying to trouble shoot it on my end I should just dump it all on the Dev and say "Your problem bud fix it and it is not my fault, it is yours." Only to have the guy turn around and say "Everything works on my side". Which has happened before. I try to be considerate enough to see if any of the common problems that might have caused that like "load order" or "other mods" might have done it to me. Because remember when I first ran into the problem and for a week no one else was reporting said problem, I presumed it was just me so I wanted to make sure it was not "my side" before bringing it up. Only after others brought it up in this thread did I realize it was not just me so it might not be "my side". And that is when I brought it up as well. Also having to deal with Nexus a lot. A mod author usually says "Check your load order" and "Check your other mods" because many think it could not be their fault. (attempt at sarcasm here with last line.)

Your statement of "Bring it anyway because if you keep the problem to yourself and more importantly, keep the solution to yourself, the next person to have the same problem won't have what you know to guide them so they're going to start from square one." Came across as me being greedy and selfish if I did find out it was my side. Which in turn got me slightly hostile do to my interpretation of what you said. And if what I am told by many people in life is true. I do not subtly troll or do sarcasm in any way.

Again thank you guys for any help you have given. I am considering doing a third pass on tests and reinstalling Fallout 4 just to do a clean sweep to see if I have a loose file somewhere. But I am not finding it working even with everything but Sim Settlements installed and the required items like DLC and the addon.

So to Recap. At this point before doing a full wipe. Even when it is just the DLC, F4 unoffical patch, Sim Settlements and addons for the mod. I still get the guards in the barracks just chillin like they back on the block smoking and joking. The only think a full wipe of frankly Fallout 4 and NMM would do is get rid of any loose files that may exist that I missed if I am not mistaken. The question is now "Do I" or "Don't I". And at this point I am asking for Advise and opinions on this.

Yours truely Tankthing and Buttkicker. DV Hawkes

Gotcha, so misunderstandings all around, all I meant to imply is that sharing the problem and the solution if one is ever found is best because it provides a reference point for others. It's not a selfish thing, my games have other weird issues that I'm 100% certain are self-inflicted.

While laudable that you're not dumping the issue on a dev at the first sign of something wonky, it sounds like you've done your legwork already and this is exactly the right time to ask the community for help.

In my experience, SS's folks are a really helpful and decent bunch and I think @kinggath himself is up for Canonization in 3 religions for his contributions, patience and overall decent human beingness. The more technical info about the problem you can share, the more somebody looking at the issue is going to be able to match to their own experience and potentially come up with a solution.

OK, lets see if we can figure out the source of the problem.

When I run into issues with the settlers all standing around doing nothing, its a symptom that my game has just run into the 128 scriptable element array limit. Sometimes just sending a couple of them somewhere else will fix it. If you're close to this edge or even slightly over, you'll see behavior like the settlement partially working and it takes forever to assign settlers to things. Can you list off your charisma stat and are you using any settlement population uncappers?

How big is the settlement that is having problems in population vs number of interactable objects? (Anything with a script attached, even doors count in this)

There's an ammo factory settlement piece that needs to be cleaned out periodically. I took the nuclear option of self-destructing all my settlements and it blew ammo piles all over 9 settlements. Picking up more than 4000 ammo boxes is not fun and I've still got another 15 settlements to visit and repair. This many objects in the game causes MASSIVE framerate loss, crashes to desktop and (as you've probably guessed by now), settlers standing around doing nothing.

As a final resort before wiping it all and starting over I'd load it into Fallrim tools and see if there's any dead script references that need to be nuked or other oddness. FO4Edit may have something to offer you for cleaning as well. You might be able to tell from the running scripts in the save what has hooked your settlers and is keeping them from doing their thing. It's sometimes not obvious what the blocker is so if you decide to do some poking, definitely make a copy of the save and work against the copy just in case you kill something that needed to be there.

It is the barracks that are having the problems. I can assign the person to man it but when the two to start out appear they just stand. I initiated a fight in Sanctuary which had at the time 15 settlers and the two guys just stood there like morons. This happened even with the minimal mods installed. I made a seperate save and uninstalled the mod as in SS and all add ons then reinstalled having only DLC, Unoffical patch and SS. I hate saying SS because first comes to mind is the German SS. I digress. Still had the problems. Spawned in a couple of Legendary Mythical Claws and still the two guys sat there.

My settlers are active. I do not have in any settlement any "Ammo plants" or "toy factories" I tend to just run the buildings and plots that are defensive, shop, power and water. The settlers run around like maniacs like they should. They engaged the two DClaws and brought them down in seconds. I tend to arm and armor up my people since I am doing War in Comonwealth, and survival.

Ok you have me at this point. This part went way over my head.

Unrelated to this conversation, but in the past when you talked about this I assumed it was all past tense, but this makes it sound like an existing issue for you, so:
There's an ammo factory settlement piece that needs to be cleaned out periodically. I took the nuclear option of self-destructing all my settlements and it blew ammo piles all over 9 settlements. Picking up more than 4000 ammo boxes is not fun and I've still got another 15 settlements to visit and repair. This many objects in the game causes MASSIVE framerate loss, crashes to desktop and (as you've probably guessed by now), settlers standing around doing nothing.

FYI on this, the ammo factory should now have a container all the ammo goes into, which is then transported to the workbench so make sure you've updated. Also: ammo doesn't produce if the ammo plant itself isn't loaded, it just builds up materials for later use while you're gone, so hopefully your less frequently visited settlements shouldn't be as big a problem and any new ammo once you update will go into the container.

I figured as much and just hadn't refreshed plots in these spots for a while because refreshing over a hundred plots per settlement times about 25 settlements is a little time consuming. When I nuked em all, well.. drifts of ammo boxes... kind of awesome if they didn't kill my frame rate so horribly. Like I said, 100% self-inflicted.

If Mama Murphy can kill a deathclaw with one bullet, imagine what she can do with a minigun.

I made the mistake once of giving momma murph her drugs. Then she just sat in her chair and I killed her with drugs just to free up the settlements slot. *whistles innocently*

I can't see the minutemen option when I choose to fork out and upgrade. I have "we are the minutemen" would that interfere with the add on? I've already unlocked the castle and artillery.
