Solved Assigning a Leader to a settlement

So. This is more of a "How do I?" question than anything. The last time I used SS was 3.5.1 and I was grousing to a friend that I hate having to give up a valuable Companion just to auto build a settlement. Some settlements I rather have it all automatic, especially the tiny ones, like Hangman's Alley or Coastal Cottage. He said that had been fixed and to update. So I update to 4.0.6a, load up my game, go to Mirkwater Construction, lure in a settler, and try to assign him to the desk and he refused. O.o So was my friend wrong, I have a setting wrong, or am I a complete idiot and I don't know what I am doing? I am leaning toward the last option personally. How do I get this settler to take on the task of building Mirkwater (or Hangman's Alley or Dalton Farm (Far Harbor), etc)? I would be more than happy to setup a supply line to the rest of the settlements (all settlements supply line to Greygarden so through them they are all linked) if I could accomplish the auto building part. >.<

Instead of trying to assign Mr Settler to the desk like you would a leader, try clicking on the blue print on the CP desk and see if it lets just start up a city plan. I'm not sure, but I think you can skip the leader assignment step and just get to breaking ground.

Nope. I went to Dalton Farm and did as you said, picked the only ROTC plan for it, then it popped up a dialog asking if I wanted to build it or assign a leader. Well, I didn't want to build it, so I assigned a leader and the only options was Ada, Nick Valentine, Curie, etc... All Companions. >.< I want to assign a Settler or someone who isn't a Companion to lead and auto build the settlement.

You won't be able to assign Mr Settler to the desk, but leader requirement to build a City Plan is now optional. This can be turned off in the Holotape/MCM under City Building.

If you want to use the leader system anyway and get the benefits from leader traits, you could download some of the leader addon packs to get more options.

Edit: most of them seem to be in the Nexus/Sim Settlements/Miscellaneous category, but they might hide under other categories too.

Alright, so... Update. I installed SS Vanilla Leaders and SS Mayors (the page for SS Mayors says it is compatible with SS Vanilla Leaders). And, as I am doing Far Harbor right now, proceeded to do Echo Lake with a non Companion leader and an Assaultron supplier back to Dalton Farm (As Dalton has a supplier to Greygarden it's connected into the main network through Dalton Farm), no issues. Then the Visitor Center after I got Uncle Ken to go back to Far Harbor. That was a little buggy as it showed I had 999 food but it was showing up as red until I got the Assaultron supplier back to Dalton Farm setup then it turned green. Then, when I was at Echo Lake, I got the random side quest to take out Shipbreaker. That was a tough fight but won it and went off to tell Long Fellow. While I was at his cabin I set him up as the Leader of his Cabin settlement. And the Assaultron I built for a supplier back to Dalton Farm refuses to be setup as such. I select it, "Q", select Dalton Farm, and Enter to confirm yet it's status isn't changing nor is the supply line showing up on the map when I check supply lines. Not to Dalton Farm, not to Echo Lake, not to the Visitor Center, not to Greygarden, etc. O.o So I am not entirely certain what's going on with that. When I get a minute I am going to try it in reverse, from Dalton Farm to Long Fellow Cabin and see if that works.

Update 2 : No luck assigning an Assaultron as a supplier from Dalton Farm to Old Longfellow's Cabin settlement. Not entirely sure why that's all bugged out. O.o

Well, original question was answered, the rest is extraneous. The whole game is bugged at the moment so... Thanks all. :D

Adding to this, I posted another thread, but there was no answer. I used Workshop Framework to "Claim this Settlement" ... after doing so, I was not able to assign a leader through the CP. It kept saying "Need more allies"...

Any thoughts along with this and city leader assignment? Is this a related glitch about not assigning?
