Microfusion shed research quest

Having trouble with one of the clues being excessively vague. Specifically the one about jumpstarting the reactor. I've tried everything I could think of, including throwing plasma/pulse grenades into the reactor chamber, but without a solid lead, I'm completely stuck. Anyone get past that step?
