Question Assigning settler to artillery bug

When I try to assign a settler to the artillery cannon they just ignore my command. I had posted this to a video the Kinggath posted a while back and he said the saved game is messed up and I'd need to fix it using Fallrim Tools. So I'm here looking for help.

Thank you for your time.

Below is how to check it. Still, it is more a diagnostic tool when it comes to FO4.

most folks aren’t happy with the solution if the in-game steps don’t work. :sorry

if you have uninstalled any mods mid-game none of this will be much help. :this

i'd go into the city manager holotape and disable all auto-assign options. i never enable them in any settlement. if auto-assign is disabled, you can control what settler goes to what plot/resource.

If I had uninstalled a mod mid-game would I have to start a new game?

My problem is with Minuteman Artillery (only available through Brae's add-on) because you can assign settlers to it sometimes, and sometimes they do it as soon as you power it up. But Preston Garvey doesn't accept that artillery as the same as workshop (special) artillery that you get from with Old Guns at the Castle. So since you can't use that, if you build artillery from Special > Artillery it is fine, but your settlment leader won't let you assign to a non-Sim Settlements object. So no reason to build it. I'm dead in the water on Our Powers Combined because there are only 3 settlements not under Sim Settlements and I need 5. So I either start over at level 1 without Sim Settlements, or Sim Settlements includes valid artillery, or Brae's fixes his so they are legal artillery in Preston's eye.

sim settlements is far from abandoned, but that particular addon is long since covered in cobwebs. i really wouldn't use any mod that has been abandoned because that can cause problems. as you are seeing.
you may be able to disable all auto-assignments via your pipboy and try to manually assign a settler to it - but i don't know if that will work.
what happens if you build the default artillery piece? can you assign a settler to that?

I did that, but hindered 5 settlements by taking control of a settler each to man artillery. I can live with that, but just don't understand why Sim Settlements doesn't realize how important artillery is to the Minutemen. LOL, like, REALLY important. Player may not need it, I don't. Until you go hated against BOS and they decide to attack the Minutemen. Actually I have used the artillery smoke grenades a couple of times, when I wanted to thin out a dense area of raiders.

i'm not following along. its a game mechanic that you need 1 settler to be assigned to 1 artillery piece in each settlement, and sim settlements doesn't affect that - as long as you handle the assignment of settlers yourself. if you allow sim settlements to handle settler assignment, it will do that based on certain things, such as if you have enough food, or if you are telling it to assign settlers based on settlement needs.
you can disable settlement needs and auto assignment and then that defaults to you to assign your settlers wherever you need them to be.
there's no direct issue with sim settlements breaking a game quest. it simply doesn't do that.
