Solved SS happiness report showing zeros

First off, thanks for all the fantastic work that's been put into these by everyone (and especially Kinggath).

My SS happiness report isn't working. It's showing zero's even though workshop shows this settlement's happiness currently sitting at 62 (see screenshot). Happiness report is doing this in all settlements.

I tried updating SS and Workshop Framework (now running SS 3-in-1 4.2.5 and WF 1.2.0b), but that didn't fix it.

I'm aware this has been an ongoing bug and have searched forums etc. Was this supposed to have been fixed, or is it still a known issue?

Thanks in advance

yeah, I am not going to go looking for the specific video but it is a still known issue that the reports can be a bit laggy in displaying the calculations.

In fact when working right they still many not match very well as they are more a calculated prediction. The "62 isn't current" It is more in line with what it says a "prediction for the next day"

Same as the vanilla workshop report. I use the bar at the top while in workshop mode in the settlement as a more accurate indicator.

If you hang out there a while and idle, maybe sign-out and back into the game it might reset.?

If for some reason your workshop system has been glitched there are some whoppers of vanilla bugs to the workshop system. That is why I use the bar at the top, and only worry when the numbers in the workshop hud at the top, and my barn-yard math doesn't add up.

Thanks for confirming that it's still a known issue. My happiness reports aren't just laggy though, they never appear. I've been playing for a few hours in and around several settlements and have checked the reports periodically - have tried closing game and re-opening etc. No joy.

It's possible my workshop array has been glitched, I've had a similar bug to a known one where my SS desk mixes information between two settlements. The name of the settlement always shows correctly in the desk, but I've had a couple of leaders swap themselves around without my knowledge and take control of other settlements. An example was that I assigned Phyllis Daily to Egret Marina and Piper to Hangman's Alley when I started those settlements. Just noticed today that Piper was now apparently in charge of both. The settlement needs report correctly matched the info in the workshop bar though, which suggests that this isn't the cause of my happiness report showing zeros.

The reason I want the happiness report to work is that my settlement needs bars are full in several settlements but happiness is low. I can do my own barnyard math, but its helpful to have some confirmation because a lot is really just speculation (for example, speculating on whether a bed has been counted as being in the rain because of the tin shack roof having a small hole - or whether or not I have a synth).

I would like to confirm your running the latest version of SS and have HUDFramework installed?

Please humour me :)

Unless newer versions were released this afternoon ;) I'm using Sim Settlements 3-in-1 v 4.2.5 and HUDFramework v 1.0f

HUDFramework seems to be working okay, the SS hud display shows up fine and matches the workshop numbers.

The screen shot of the happiness report really isn't enough to go on.

Will you kindly also provide a screen shot of your workshop numbers bar? Like this:

BelGarion.jpg

I'd snap one like this and then run the happiness report and take a snap of it. Post both together: These two are like the puzzle pieces and the puzzle box.

Yes sir. If this is too much info, sorry, but I thought the plot breakdowns would be helpful for anyone trying to guess my settlement's happiness layout.

These screenshots are all from Outpost Zimonja, all taken together just now. The city plan I'm using doesn't have any residential plots yet, just some random beds lying around. The HUD doesn't show the brahmin symbol, but this settlement is linked via an Idek's Logistic plot to the rest of my settlements.

The only active bonus happiness objects I had was the weight bench from Vault-tec workshop - which apparently adds 2 points of happiness. When I added this, the settlement happiness went up in my workshop view almost immediately. I have a 20 point penalty from the two advanced industrial plots (I don't think Idek's Logistics carries a penalty?). Not sure why happiness is projected at 76.

The file named 'message' is the notification that pops up after I populate and then close the happiness report.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Even though the Happiness report shows zeros in the top portion, your happiness is exactly where it should be given all your other numbers.

First. If you have one food, one water, one defense, and one sheltered bed for each settler your happiness score will/should be 80. You have all of these covered. (Thus, it is true that the happiness report should show full scores in all categories. This may very well be bug in the presentation of the report, but not one in fact.)

Second. You have two advanced Industrials that right now give -20 Happiness divided by 5 settlers = -4 Happiness total. The report correctly reflects this: 80 (full needs met) - 4 (bonus/penaties) = 76 predicted happiness.

Until you or the City Plan adds a Rec Plot/other bonus happiness objects, this is exactly where your total settlement happiness will stay. If more settlers show up, your happiness will also increase somewhat because then Advanced Industrials' penalty will be spread across more settlers: 20/6.

(A couple of junkyard dogs right now would put you at 80. Where's Gene when you need him?)

Third: the weight bench. It adds 2 points/population. Right now with 5 settlers it is only providing a fraction of happiness. What I'd expect to happen in this case is that your total happiness will appear somewhat unstable. Sometimes you'll see 76 happiness arrow going up, sometimes you'll see 76 happiness arrow going down. Fractions of happiness often cause this sort of oscillation in the workshop numbers and in the pipboy.

(Best thing would be to add a weight bench/pommel horse for each settler: this would send your total settlement happiness to 78 and remove the fraction wobble.)

The bottom half of happiness report is the most helpful and shows stuff you might not be keeping a running tally of (because you aren't a nerd like me). The top half is just a fancified way of seeing if you have one food, one water, one defense, and one sheltered bed for each settler.

But as you said above:

its helpful to have some confirmation because a lot is really just speculation (for example, speculating on whether a bed has been counted as being in the rain because of the tin shack roof having a small hole

The real use for this portion is seeing if your beds are counting as sheltered as you really have no other way of knowing this. Since your total happiness isn't tanking, this also I think points to the fact that the report just isn't showing the numbers, but that all is fine behind the scene.

(In the WSFW settings you can turn off the sheltered bed mechanic. It's a PITA, why fight it? Somewhere Kinggath recommends this.)

The file named 'message' is the notification that pops up after I populate and then close the happiness report.

I haven't encounter this new bit. I wonder if it's because I'm on a poor old Xbox. This play through, updated to the most recent version of everything, I haven't bothered to build a CP desk and have only run the report on the pipboy. I can't imagine that desk versus pipboy would matter. But maybe just for Science! see if running the report on your pipboy shows different???

or whether or not I have a synth

You'll have to forgive me, but this is a pet peeve of mine:pardon: Synth settlers do not affect settlement happiness. Although they may be plotting to kill you, they are just as happy to farm in the dirt as any other dirt farmer.

Well it's good to know happiness seems to be where it should be.

I know bits and pieces about the happiness/settlement system and have gleaned stuff from around and about, but its difficult to gauge fact from fiction online with people speculating hence the misguided synth accusation - sorry and thanks! I did have a settlement drastically drop in happiness due to a synth, but I think they had also killed someone or something else was wrong. Wasn't aware that bonuses and penalties are split between settlers before being averaged - so that's super helpful to know. It makes sense that would create fractional happiness numbers, hence the arrow being unstable.

I like the bed mechanic, but you're right - it's probably not worth fighting a broken mechanic, so I think I will switch that off.

As it happens, I had already built two kennels in that settlement and caught two dogs! I was waiting on releasing them until after I got a reply from you though so that the happiness of that settlement wasn't altered. One was a dud, but the other has brought happiness up two points.

Tried running the report from my pipboy, same result. I know I can calculate the happiness manually, I just like the idea of having a report tell me what the issue is without me having to think about it. Just a quality of life thing.

Anyway, thanks I appreciate your guidance!

Just discovered something else that I think is linked..

The smiley/frowney face that I understand indicates whether a settlement is ready to upgrade doesn't work for me either. This is Oberland Station. Frowney face at 93%, but city upgraded anyway. Oh well... Just passing it on in case its an issue that needs addressing for others. If it's just me, no problems.
