Solid, basic SS configuration? (For XboxOne)

Hello all,

So I have had some issues with my game, not necessarily blaming SS but I am looking to reinstall and start afresh. For XboxOne, are there any mods other than the ones listed by Kinggath that conflict? Is there a simple load set which other users have tried and had enduring games with? In that I mean no settler moving/assignment/supply line issues etc or script lag...

Also, is "Settlers of the Commonwealth" a reliable mod to use with this? I have had it with my recent failed playthroughs and I can't determine if this creates the issues I have had.

Hi there. No going to be able to answer all questions and you will most likely dislike the ones I have. Sorry about that.

No script lag? No settlers issues? No issues at all? No disrespect but even the base game can’t say that so, I would be shocked to hear that someone has a configuration with mods that can guarantee this.

Mods to avoid: ANY scrap all mod. By that I mean those that scrap anything more than the base game does. Those always have risk and are often the culprit of very serious issues. In the realm of mod that scrap (mostly) everything but only what the game allows you to, Raze My Settlement can be used. I prefer it to the “scrap all” option from SS (town gavel) because it keeps some stuff from being scrapped for various reasons.

You mentioned supply lines, I’m assuming you know if the IDEK Logistic Stations add-on pack? If you didn’t know... you’re welcome.

I don’t know enough about load order to discuss that and I never used Settlers of the Commonwealth so I don’t know about that either. But now I’m curious, what was the issue you had?

I am not on Xbox so don’t want to say to much as their are much better folks than me who can answer that.

Still, I am comfortable saying Settlers of the Commonwealth should be fine.
Ha, even an excellent choice!

A good resource. I think @bullyrook first posted this.

As far as determining LO this is a great starting point and has so much useful info.

I think that on an Xbox you have to build your LO around SS.

My SS on the Xbox recommendation is to run just what is needed for SS and anything required to be enabled at the start(like UFO4P) and play it out for 20 or so levels and see what happens.

This is the time to determine the best SS performance settings for you.

You want to figure out how much your box can handle SS without, or as few as possible, other variables.

You'll have to determine thru trial and error how much you can build and how many settlers you can have reliably at each settlement and also how much you can overstuff your workbenches before you hit the limit of your box and everything craps the fan.

Once you determine your baseline, you can add other stuff to the soup and see what effect it has. If all is good, great. If bad, remove and roll back.

Save often, but turn auto saves off. Hard saves only. If playing in survival, get a mod that lets you hard save and use it. (And when you sleep manually delete the previous sleep save) If you do have auto saves on, always manually delete the oldest autosave so that the game always makes a new autosave and does not overwrite an existing one.) Regularly clear the cache on your Xbox.

This is great advice, thank you! I think the mod I have which cleans up Sanctuary might be a problem based on your thoughts, given that Codsworth would not path properly at the start (I had to disable it just to start the quest).

I never experienced Script lag at all beforehand, even though I know it can occur. It only seems to be a recent thing. The named Settlers from SOTC would not respond to commands or move to settlements etc, they would stay in their primary locations even after they were discovered.

Thank you, I will pay particular attention to the save game mechanisms and bite the bullet. I love Survival mode and the challenges it brings but reluctantly I will remove the "sleep and save" mechanism. What is the approximate limit for workshop storage?

Thank you! I am gonna study this and see if I can identify my issues a bit more.

Yeah, I love my location overhauls, but one needs to be careful as in some ways they can be more like a scrapping mod.

I recommend never using a city plan in a location where they are touched by that particular type of mod.

Place the Settlers of the Commonwealth as low as possible. They have location markers and ref ID's that will be wiped out by any other location/companion/etc mod... place before weather and visual type mods. This will ensure all the SoC are placed properly.

Thank you, this is useful to know. So weather mods and the like will go towards the end...

That is what I do. They have the least chance to overwrite things like armor, locations, etc. They can however negate a lot of other mods you may have, such as some interior lighting, lighting in general, etc. because most of the weather mods have copied the records of either vanilla weather, or the DLC weather...

Load order can only fix so many things. That's when one gets into "patches"... which is then a whole different story.

Someone has done a thread on X-Box load orders that would be in explanation @RayBo has referenced it several times elsewhere, I think.

Thank you! I started to look at large file with load order mechanisms etc and I will seek out the XBox load orders too.
