After being out & about, questing, killing things, etc., I come back to Sanctuary, which is my main outpost. 27 people present, including a handful of non-raider settlers (not the Concord 5, their corpses are still in the Museum).
I hear gunfire, and turn to discover one of the raider visitors had opened fire on my guys. Of course, they return fire, and, insta-firefight between the raider gang and every visitor. One of the non-raider settlers mounts up in a PA suit, but just has a pipe pistol, not really that helpful. Of course, in the exchange, one of the gang members gets his wires crossed, and now he's a red blip on the radar. I ignore him (rather not kill if I don't absolutely have to), stand back out of the way & see what will come of this, as I'm pretty sure this entire exchange is ABNORMAL.
End of that exchange, every raider visitor ends up dead & I'm left doing a rather extensive clean up (Autobutcher FTW), and a somewhat less busy settlement, albeit with all my guys still intact--oh wait, one of them's still hostile. Open the console, select the angry Raider Recruit, 'stopcombat', 'resetai'. Issue solved.
All right, so we came out relatively unscathed. No gang member deaths, no damage to settlement objects. I thought nothing more of the issue, and spoke to Jammer, setting up another raid, to claim another vassal at the South Boston Red Rocket. BTW, this location can end up a real I love you to take, given proximity to Big John's Scrapyard & their supermutant inhabitants.
The raid goes relatively well, though I lose a few guys to the aforementioned supermutants. Of course, almost immediately after, up pops "Defend Sanctuary". So it's a FT back to Sanctuary, expecting to face either Gunners or Minutemen.
Instead, I once again find my guys all engaged with the visiting raiders! And this time, because there's an active "Defend" quest, my guys are all mortal. On top of it, Minutemen attack from the north. So I'm scrambling to kill not only my hostile guests, but the Minutemen!
It was an ugly finish, to say the least. Sanctuary is now down to 11 people, from 27.
Now, an interesting observation: it seems like my other outpost contributed no soldiers to the raid on RR South Boston, even though they were closer. Really wish we could choose where the bulk of the guys come from on a raid once we have more than one outpost.
But the burning issue here, for some reason, the raider visitors turned hostile & continued to be when respawned. I've disabled the visitor system for now, but it does remove some of the flavour.
