Old Post Game crashes near Red Rocket

This thread would be better suited to bug reporting but that section of the forum won't offer me the option to post.

I set up my main outpost in Red Rocket and when I try to travel there by any method, the game crashes. The game crashes trying to travel to any nearby spots as well, including the waste disposal cave under Red Rocket, the overlook, and the Concord water tower. Although I can fast travel to the water tower, taking two steps toward Red Rocket ensues the crash. I am able to enter Sanctuary but attempting to travel to the Red Rocket from there causes the crash upon reaching the other side of the bridge, even allowing time for the area to load. Both Jammer and Ophelia are there and I can't proceed with any quests because of this issue.

I have some vassals and normal settlements that I've tried to convert to outposts but the Conquerors desk won't allow me to do anything.

Let me introduce you to the triangle of death. https://www.simsettlements.com/site...sanctuary-abernathy-farm-and-red-rocket.6964/

The short answer is you probably have too much built in that area. Lower all the performance settings in the holotape and then walk up from somewhere far enough away like graygarden. Don't fast travel. Then you are going to have to reduce those 3 settlements by a fair amount.

What platform are you on?

Along with the above:

This is as near as it gets to a mandatory read for settlement crashes. :umnik2 I've read it many - many times. :whistle3

It can take some creativity. :crazy

:wacko Rolling back your save is the other option in some instances. Often, incomplete dialog sequences with traders and quest givers in the past visits can lead to this also. :focus

I have a top tier PC which should negate this, even so, Red Rocket at best has gone to level one in my absence and Sanctuary has no city building plan associated with it, Abernathy farm was initialized at level three.

Thank you for this link, I'm feeling confident that my solution will lie here, if anywhere. I'll post results in this thread concerning whether or not I've resolved my issue, including which method worked.

Hey, @Mike M, what @Phil_T_Casual was linking and saying is really good to know.

FO4 is almost unbelievablely under optimized so the biggest restrictions to gameplay after the recommended hardware specs is the game engine itself. I run 2 x 1080ti in sli, 32gb of ram, 1tb m.2 drives and a g-sync monitor, one would think this is good. It is way overkill for FO4, and gets me little other than the satisfaction of building a pc myself.

That article in particular is a conorstone of a well designed game run. It leads right into several things that lead to mid-late game dissatisfaction and technical problems that once they become noticeable “precombines and @damanding articals” to the player are inevitablely hard too fix and leads to much game instability.

hahahaha, I’ll get off my high horse. Other than to say this for the benefit of other players who may read this thread.

In FO4, higher hardware specs than the recommended are less beneficial than in other games. They have a diminishing returns to $$ spent for those seeking better performance and stability.

All Sim Settlement fan-boy advice aside. In FO4 education in how the game engine works, and technical user advice as found in the educational vault here on this site is more important and valuable to a satisfying game than all the hardware/$$ thrown at it as long as your specs pc fall within the recommended boundaries.

The scope and availability of sound technical advice collected in the educational vault here is in my opinion the most complete, and comprehensive that can be found on the internet for FO4, and is credited, linked and attributed, both directly and indirectly to some of the most technically competent folks to ever play / mod this game from around the globe. Not to mention passionate users who have experience thousands x ++ of hours in game as individuals who have also contributed from all walks of life and professional experience.

hahahaha, sure this is a resource for Sim Settlement players, but even if someone never wanted to touch the mod. I am inclined to suggest the above would still be a reasonable assertion and encourage them to improve the FO4 experience here. It is solid material even for the non-Sim Settlement player, just a Fo4 player wanting to play a modded game. :bye

Getting close and destroying the settlement worked.

When I arrived, there was a battle already in progress from a scripted battle with Gunners from Concord, I think the leader's name was Joe. After the battle Jammer commented on it saying that he thought I'd gotten rid of them already.

The bug-plot thickens: After rebuilding I went on adventuring, conscientiously saving along the way, only to discover that despite the confirmation notifications with each save, the game wasn't creating new save files. Having no choice but to lose several hours of gameplay and exit the game, the problem was resolved upon reloading. This is the second time this happened and although I didn't realize it the first time, the effect was initialized after attempting to approach the Red Rocket while the described battle scenario was happening.

Now, that is interesting.
I have not heard of this before.upload_2019-3-25_22-17-57.png
Have you verified your game files with Steam recently? it shouldn't matter but have you ever cleaned out your save file folder sometimes having too many saves can block exit saves but not normal saves?

It would also be good to check things with Fallrim:

We would be looking for a screenshot like the below:

Don't clean anything but maybe we would see something with the screenshot.

I hate it when that happens. I have had this happen to me. I play survival. Soul crushing to realize there's no actual save after you've slept. I finally realized it only happens me when playing offline. But, the kicker, it turns out, is that it was saving the game but it wasn't putting the saves at the top of my game load list. It was sticking them at the bottom down where "leaving the cryopod" save is. Like the time stamp for the saves got out of whack. Probably just some weird Xbox quirk. But might be worth rooting around the basement of your own saves just in case.

I have verified my game files recently but may do it again anyway. Steam "always" indicates that files must be recovered because it insists that cleaned files lack integrity, so, I get newly recovered dirty files that must be cleaned again. I don't use Falrim but rather ReSaver for script cleaning and recently removed a few unattached script instances. I delete save files that are more than a week old.

My first suspicion was that the saves were stored out of time sequence but investigation only confirmed their absence.

:umnik2yeah, cleaning the esm’s does create more work. Sound like you are doing everything you can.:scratchhead

I actually will google this tonight. I like puzzles and I can’t help but think that the saves are somewhere on your computer just not in the right directory then? Odd as hell. I was hoping @bullyrook had nailed it as that was logical. :umnik2

I would not be surprised if smart folks who know things about log files could point right to it, but I am not that guy. :pardon

Well. I'll be a son of a gun, this is a thing. A lot of google results. Sounded like you have a new pc and not this issue but I have had problems with windows defender before.

I would maybe start with permissions and security, whatever virus protector with Steam.
Not at all sure why it would not do it all the time but ???

I use Avast so Bit Defender is locked off and nonfunctional. Avast is notorious for interfering with gameplay but hasn't presented any problems so far. When Avast detects an issue it moves offending files to a virus chest and upon checking the chest I found it to be empty.
