Hi,

So I am about halfway through a play-through and the game has been getting progressively more unstable and has gotten to the point where I cannot go into downtown Boston as I will CTD in a matter of minutes. From the very beginning as soon as I ran the first city plan in Sanctuary the game has been struggling for me. I have lowered/turned off all the settings in SS plus the graphics settings of the game to try and solve this. While it has helped with fps at settlements slightly, I'm still getting lots of CTDs.

I have only built 3 city plans: Sanctuary, Tenpines and Hangmans. Then using SS I have hand built 3 more large(ish) settlements at Zimonja, Starlight and Greygarden.

My question is this; are running both WOTC and SS too much for the game to handle? I know WOTC is very script heavy as is SS so am I just asking too much of the game? I have had a couple of previous play-throughs with WOTC installed on ultra setting with very little performance issues.

The mods I have installed plus load order:

Scrap Everything - Ultimate Edition.esp

My rig is not the problem but here are my specs anyway:
CPU: i7 4790k
GPU: Vega 64
RAM: 16GB DDR3
500GB SSD

I have abandoned this play-through and am currently reinstalling the game and would like to give Conqueror a try, but am I just going to be fighting an up-hill battle running it alongside WOTC?

Any help or opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I know people have had problems as a result of moving workbenches, and you have move that workbench. I couldn’t find specifics on a quick search, but it may be worth looking into.

Not a good mod, actually a bad one

Guide here by @damanding will explain.
Scrapping Mods and Performance Issues

Another guide to look at is
Increasing The Chances of a Smooth Game Play
It's a work in progress but top tips from some very good people

That is very true and I have tried it in the past as a test :(

What you have to remember is, issues may not arrise right away, but they can fester and build till you CTD. in the smooth play guide above 9if you read it) you will see two examples of game plays, who run smoothly based on certain things we do :)

Yeah I've read both of those guides which taught me me to clear out my saves, which has sped up my initial load time. Also taught me why my game sometimes shits itself around CIT.

Thanks for the reply.

Moving the workbench is definitely a bad idea just for vanilla games and can also break some features of Sim Settlements, particularly for Rise of the Commonwealth which calculates placement in part based on workbench location.

As for War of the Commonwealth, if you're using the really old Nexus version I suggest you stop using that entirely and switch to the new version in active development. It's been completely re-written from the ground up and is being updated regularly. You can join their discord server to get the latest releases or follow their Nexus thread. All the relevant information is in the first sticky note here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12395/?tab=posts.

However even if you're using the new version you may still struggle to run it with Sim Settlements. They're probably the two most script heavy mods available for Fallout 4.

Edited to add that because it's script based I strongly recommend a new start game without a workbench moving mod (those changes are baked into a savegame), the new Spawn Engine mod, and Sim Settlements. Don't try to update an existing game, there will be too much information baked into that save file.

That's some great info.

Thanks very much.
