No Response Noooooooo! (Too many esl's)

Kingath and Team,

So I stopped playing Fallout 4 a few months ago, then I see your new Conqueror mod and I can't get to the Nexxus fast enough to download and update and get into the game.

I make all the decisions at the start of a new game, I turn on all the settlements to level 3 and I jump in, and wade through the opening anticipating greatness, as usual.

But when I emerge nothing is different, I run to Red Rocket and check out Abernathy just to make sure there is no bug. I log out and check NMM and find out that none of the complex city plan esl's are enabled, so I start to enable them and to my horror they take up active mod slots!

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Not sure how you guys play Fallout 4 but my mod limit is maxed out at 255 at all times.

So I am sure I already know the answer to this but is this working as intended?

Do I somehow need to figure out 31 mods to disable to run this? Ack!

You guys really know how to stress me out! But as always amazing work!

Just putting it out there, a step eventually a lot of us 255 folk get to is lowering that number through combining patches and some mods. There's a tutorial pdf in the city planners toolkit specifically for combining city plan mods in the "Extra - Manipulating City Plans.pdf" file. Though it might be a tad complex. Start by just combining some patches.

Haven't checked out the city plan tutorial yet may have to, as over the years I have honed my load out to the necessities. Well I guess I could disable some of the clothing mods as this play through will be about the settlements not the character.

But still its hard to delete mods that make the game better.

NMM may show you as over the mod limit with esls, even though the 255 limit only applies to ESMs and ESPs. Mine shows 273 active plugins right now.

Really....sweet!

I did get it pruned down, as I realized if I was going to make all settlements self generate that I didn't need 20 settlement building mods, but I did have to turn off a few other ones that I can now turn back on, or at least experiment with.

So time to push the limits!

Because as we all know if its not crashing you aren't modding it right!

what MO are you using? the old NMM does not support esl's?

there is a new one on git-hub

I use NMM, I was excited to try Vortex and I spent literally 24 hours plus switching Fallout 4 over to Vortex only for it to SUCK! Vortex is missing so many of the basic features of NMM that I went back to it. Maybe in a year or so I will try Vortex again.

Vortex does take time to learn.

I am thinking of doing some video's on it for the sim-settlement folks and posting them here.

if you are using the old NMM switch to the new one on git-hub it will fix the esl problem without going to vortex

I think I already have the latest as the version number is 0.65.2 and I think there was a bit of confusion I have 386 active mods, but in the past any time I got above 255 active plugins my game would crash.

I guess the newer version of NMM ignores that, as I have now with Fielran's suggestion, pumped up my active plugins to 295 and the game still runs, so NMM had to have updated some time in the last few versions.

So color me happy.

And the main reason I remember not liking Vortex was lack of a search function and sorting the mods in an odd order. I do like the system of showing which mod is over writing, etc. But they just need to update the ease of use quality of life features.

I've been using MO2, though I basically have no experience with NMM or Vortex. MO2 does right by me though. The virtual mod folder works as it should, so it's easy to tweak/uninstall/change what overrides/update mods. Easy to switch between different mod collections. No issues with esls.

Though I'd love to hear if a different program was better, given, like I said, I haven't really tried the others.

The newest NMM works with ESLs, it just...doesn't seem to know that? Everything works fine as far as installation and playing the game, but there are some weird UI things, including not differentiating ESLs from ESMs and ESPs as far as the mod limit. It also consistently says on the activation screen that a mod's ESL masters are disabled, even when they aren't. Occasionally ESLs fail to activate automatically after installation, and you have to go the activation tab and check them yourself.

0.65.2 is not the latest version.
It is the latest version on the Nexus site because it is no longer suported by them.
You can get 0.65.11 with the link RayBo suggested that has a lot of bug fixes and better support for .esl files. I'd highly recommend it.

Yeah, I thought .esl files didn't count like .esp and .esm. I use Vortex, and though it took a moment to learn I like it quite a lot.

Doh :crazy guess its version 11 not version 1.1 as I was reading it, going to download now!

Thanks

I think 0.65.11 still shows .els files in your "active mods" number, but they can be ignored. So it's really that number - any .els files (which can be found at the top of the plugins tab after .esm)

The latest version doesn't require you to restart NMM after installing an .els though.
