New Report Too many NPCs in pre-built settlements

I have a full set of settlers in each pre-built settlement (prior to taking them over) as well as just as many or more civilians. There should only be one or the other but not both in every settlement. It's a little bit crowded. :confused:

At the rotten landfill when u save the settler from the molerat
tehre are now 2 ,once who kill the molerats they both leave on the same path.
 
I tried conquering a vassal settlement and even in total god mod it's impossible with this many NPCs. Plus the machine gun turrets have multiplied and at each machine gun turret location there are several all in the exact same spot and some of them appear to be immune to damage entirely. With about 50 NPC's in one settlement (I took aerial screenshots to count them) the performance is so terrible I can barely function. Plus I can't down them all fast enough, my raiders are long dead before I can get through the crowd and NPCs are recovering and rejoining the fight faster than I get down them. VATS is useless because I have to cycle through dozens of actors out of range just to get to the ones in front of me.
 
When previously visiting settlements not during an assault quest the NPC's were a mixture of settlers and civilians (plus visitors). However during the assault quest it was all the default settlers that came with the settlement (Greygarden), mostly civilians, and the hired guards.
 
Reloaded to an earlier save and went to visit the settlement prior to selecting it for assault. I counted 81 NPCs. I turned off visitors entirely, left and returned to that settlement. It's now down to just over 20 (I crashed before I could finish counting). But its odd because nearly all of the NPCs were labeled as Civilians in vats, not visitor types.

I’ve had similar instances happen. I usually have to reload a couple times until I am barely able to beat it. I counted 40ish(mix of gunners, settlers and civis). What really makes it a pain is half my recruits are dead by the time I get to the spot to join them for some reason. Still though I wonder why so many NPCs are in a settlement not including hired guns

Having two settlers there is a common occurrence for me. (I.E. It has happened in multiple play throughs over the last six months.)
 
ah ok lol been playing fo 4 for years and 1st time ever for me ;)
 
i had similar experience at tenpines bluff - and i also make use of an SKK mod that will launch a random attack on a settlement. that kicked in at the same time and spawned about 25 supermutants.
suffice it to say that i didn't win the battle and take the settlement.
