[XB1] Making the most of my 2GB limit - and what's the difference in Mega Packs?

Hi all, new to SS and first post. Second playthrough of FO4, first time using mods.

I'm on XB1 with GOTY edition (all DLC), and trying to make the most of my 2GB limit. I'm early in the game, and I hope to set up my mod list now, so I don't have to mess with it much in the future, except for updates and occasional add-ons. After some playability, companion, cosmetic, and cheesecake mods, I'll have about 1GB free for Sim Settlements related content. What do I do?

On bethesda, there are two versions of the Mega Pack - the Full Version (388Mb) or the New Buildings (66Mb) - and I haven't been able to figure out the difference. (can't post links yet but they're easy to find on bethesda)

Based on hasty in-my-head math, I could probably do any of the following combos:
A. SS 3-in-1 plus Mega Pack Buildings Only
B. SS (base) + IR + Mega Pack Full
C. SS (base) + IR + Mega Pack Buildings Only + Wasteland Ventures
D. SS (base) + Mega Pack Full + Wasteland Ventures + some other small add-ons
E. something else

If I delete some companion mods, I might have space for B + Wasteland Ventures.

Also working on cleaning up my load order to make more room, will post a link to that when I am able.

Thanks!

Are you more interested in placing plots yourself or having settlements designed for you? If you want to place all your own plots you can do B, c, or D. If you want settlements designed for you, you'll want A because that will include Rise of the Commonwealth which has city plans.

I would go with something else.

SS 3in1 + addons/MegaPack

You can try different addons in a test save to see what buildings look like and only keep the ones you like to make more room.
The thing with the MegaPack is that mostly it has plots from addons that their authors gave up on modding, so if you don´t like the style of one, you couldt´unnistall his plots. On the other hand, you won´t have to worry to update mod by mod because they are all in the same one.

I´d select a few addons that I like and stick with them

I would advise using Sim Settlements Lite, because it'll save you almost 120MB. You'll sacrifice the custom construction sound effects and the intermediary building stages, but it's well worth it. The custom sound effects are the background hammering and sawing noises you'll hear when close to a plot that is under construction, and the building stages are the partially finished building models that you'll see while a plot is under initial construction or is in the process of upgrading. While both of these things are nice to have, they're unnecessary, temporary, and cost 120MB that could instead be spent on adding more building plans from add-on packs.

Unfortunately, there is no 3-in-1 pack with Sim Settlements Lite, so you'll have to grab Industrial Revolution and Rise of the Commonwealth separately.

The Year One Megapack is essentially a compilation of building plans from other add-on packs, but it also includes some completely new and unique building plans unavailable anywhere else. For people who already using the other add-on packs, or for people who just want the new building plans, there is a second version that only includes the new stuff. That's why there are two versions. The Year One Megapack is interesting, but it's a bit of hodge-podge of designs of varying degrees of quality and completeness. It's quite likely that you will not want to use many of the building plans included in the full Megapack, and that can easily amount to over 100MB of wasted space. Personally, I only use the version with the new building plans, because they're all very lore-friendly and high quality (though you'll definitely want the Slocum Joe CC pack for Kinggath's donut store).

You might want to check out Uituit's Junk Town and his Flotsam & Jetsam add-ons. Junk Town has a Lite version, and Flotsam & Jetsam is Lite by design. Therefore, both of these add-ons offer a very good ratio of building plans to MBs. Junk Town also includes some very useful 1x1 interior plots, some special train car plots, and also adds a whole bunch of city leaders.

Other add-ons I'd look into are Wasteland Venturers, which weighs in at about 200MB, but is awesome. Altairp's Animal Farm fills a gap in your agricultural options. Meanwhile, Ruinedworld's Ruined Homes is also worth checking out, especially for being the only(?) add-on available for the Xbox that includes a new Advanced Industrial building plan.

Thank you! Great insight.

For now I'm happy to place and semi-control my plots, so I'll skip Rise of the Commonwealth until later in the game.

I'm playing with long build times turned on, so I see/hear the scaffolding a lot .. but it's not worth 120MB. So, I'm changing from standard to Lite, plus Industrial Revolution.

I'll go with the small buildings-only megapack, and a selection of other popular add-ons, and see how much other space I have left. I had already considered Wasteland Ventures (just saw a Ventures 2 out there?) but the others you listed sound good too.

Thanks again!
