Question Find Owner Not Always Working?

I've been having issues with it telling me that not everyone has a job. Also, I've rang the bell and not everyone was accounted for. I started using the find owner option on the homes, and I got to one where nothing happened. No marker appeared on the bed and no marker appeared out where a person would be located. Anyone know what it could be?

(I think this is the right forum to post under. Very new to using these forms, so if it's not, please move it to the correct area. Thanks! :) )

I don't know that the Fo4 developers ever envisioned something like SS. It sounds like you might be overwhelming the game a bit.

Best if one balances a-bit of questing and not all building. :bye I have to tell myself this all the time.

First check with fallrim:

Also, try turning up threads to 30 in the city manager tape.

Also, make sure you have added the below to your ini.

[Papyrus]
fUpdateBudgetMS=2.4
fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=2.4
iMinMemoryPageSize=256
iMaxMemoryPageSize=1024
iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=307200

it's from the wiki:

there is a feature of simsettlements - asam vision - that can be used to view settlers who don't have a job, or objects that need repair and a couple of other things. you can control this from the settings in your pipboy or from the console and it can help you find the guys who aren't working a plot.
what i've also had in my own games - although this has been a staple of the game from the very beginning is settlers and npc's "disappear" from the settlement. if i travel away, and then come back, they will return/respawn, but if i am in the settlement and they're not there, they won't return. it's an odd thing - i put it down to some sort of engine issue that gets resolved if/when i leave the settlement and come back a while later.

You mentioned fallrim in the other post I made the other day, and just peeked at it on nexus. I haven't turned up the threads in the tape, didn't know that was a thing (I try not to go too far into the rabbit hole, so I don't break something lol).

I'm going to try turning up the thread and making the ini file adjustment. My PC should be able to handle both fine (if the game itself can, this is Bethesda we are talking about). I may also take a peek at fallrim, just a little intimidated by stuff like that. LOOT, FO4Edit, and F4SE was rough enough to start. lol

Edit: Fallrim save check: 19.5 mb in 0.8 seconds; F4SE co-save was loaded; Detected 1 unattached instance. Active Scripts: 3....This good?

Edit 2: So I started CTD when going to Sancutary (which has never happened before). I tried cleaning the save file to see if that would help. Now I'm CTDing going to Sanctuary and crashed randomly running around another settlement. Soooo not sure what's different, but she sure doesn't like it. lol Going to go back a few save files and see if I can now fix my sudden CTD issue. This has plagued me since I started back playing again and already restarted once... I'm tossing in the towel if I can get it working for the upteenth time.

Edit 3: Kept skipping back a few saves then going to Sanctuary. It finally kicked and I'm running around now without crashing. Went back to a safe before I did any changes at all. Just gonna leave it be for now. This game is an emotional rollercoaster of CTDs for me. :(

Actually I tried this first and I couldn't see anyone unassigned. I went to a smaller settlement, and it worked fine. Went to the larger and didn't notice anything unless I assigned someone as a provisioner. I originally tried using it to find my lost settler that I couldn't account for... I think it's actually working, but the settler is just MIA. Which is why I think maybe the house is also not locating the person.

The settlements I tried using it on to find the lost folks are at 12 people and 20 people (18 at the time I first tried). I've capped both off there as to not tax the system too much. I also started using city plans, and I can see everyone there with the sensor fine.

All in all I chalk it up to the game is a bit wonkey, and it is what it is. I don't run too many mods and I even had to disable one the other day that legit should work with no issues. Husband uses it absolutely fine (heck, I set it up for him even lol). I just have horrible luck and manage to break things in all games. *shrug* That's my life. lol

Eeek! You didn't use the auto-clean feature in Fallrim, did you? By default that will kill ALL unattached script instances, which in some cases are legit fine and should not be removed. We should warn people about the auto-tools when we refer them to things like Fallrim.

Dunno how much futher you are, but best bet is to revert to a save from BEFORE you used the auto-cleaner. And don't use the auto-cleaner ;). Generally, and I apply this to myself as well, Fallrim should be used to "look but don't touch" and refer any info found to those with more under-the-hood experience.

I have had settlers become invisible, walk around under the world, and, like virtual photons, wink in and out of existence. I've had the "find owner" fail to produce any noticeable results - but the FIRST thing you should check is: when you use the option, does "Building Lot and Occupants" appear as a message? In DATA under QUESTS under MISCELLANEOUS, is that selected as an active misc quest? If both of those are yes, does using that option on any other plot achieve the expected results?

If it's working generally, but not on one plot: try refreshing the plot, just in case. Don't go anywhere until the plot finishes completely; can take a minute, or three, or five.

I only caught settlers walking around underground because I had ASAM vision on to Find Homeless and saw a disembodied red glow ghosting through my settlement. I followed it until it hit an animation marker, and then the damn settler popped UP through the ground into the aura and started using the marker. gg Bethesda.

TL;DR the game sometimes has a..... *flexible* view of workshop NPCs' existence. Try other trackers to see if you can find them; in Conqueror, for example, you can track my Soldier Rank or Role. I have found settlers wandering Far and Away over the hills and several cells distant, just standing there in the dark. It happens. If you can find the missing person(s), and you can use the console, you have some options to bring them home. Otherwise, don't worry about the plot: the game still considers it staffed and functional (tho of course this doesn't help if they're a merchant....). Lastly, if nothing else works, try assigning someone else to the plot. This may cause the game to grab the now-unemployed settler and assigning them to something else, which might bring them back from the Great Beyond to move to their new job.

Edit: if there are only a handful of active scripts, and no Suspended scripts, you're good there.

I reverted it fine. It still is crashing randomly... I'm just making it a point to go back to Sanctuary every so often after I do things to make sure it loads. For some reason, if it does it, if I go back a few save files, load them one by one, it usually fixes it. I don't know what's going on with my game to be honest. lol At this point I'm over here random CTD Queen and my husband is sitting pretty with no problems what so ever. *shrug*
