I should know what to call it, but I can't remember the term.
Stuttering is it? I think it's the game loading the next area.
when I am walking along in the game, the screen freezes for a moment. i take a step and it does it again. i take a step and it does a third time.
after that it seems to stop.
is there a cure for it?

i'm wondering how I can best tune my game for smooth gameplay. i'm not worried about sunsets etc.
my cpu. i5 6400 2.7ghz
my gpu. Nvidia GTX 1050ti
my ram. 8gb physical 18gb virtual

hummm, :smile a lot of reading and watching is ahead of you :aggro
yes, that is what I call it. "Stuttering" :crazy
If a scrap mod has caused it then, Sorry. :sorry

:bye still, there is much that can help in the future all-around, but Fo4 is prone to "Stuttering" as the system becomes more and more taxed. So, whatever the cause it isn't uncommon but there are levels of how bad it can become. The below may help with this. :this

To start go here: Match his settings: :friends
Fallout 4 Let's Play Prologue 2: Performance and Optimization
make sure to watch it at 15:33 but I recommend you watch it all.

It may help but..... that is where the reading comes to play. There isn't a simple answer to stuttering there are a lot of causes and a lot of possible solutions.

This article explains one possibility: The most likely! :declare

INI settings :yess
The below can help if you're experiencing frequent crashes and have a fairly large mod load as too many scripts running simultaneously can cause a crash.

In your Documents/My Games/Fallout4/ directory, you should find a file called Fallout4Custom.ini. If you do not, open Notepad and save a new file in that folder with that exact name. Open the file, and look for a section titled [Papyrus]. If you do not have this section, go to the bottom of the file and add it as a new line. Just below the [Papryus] heading, add the following lines:

[Papyrus]
fUpdateBudgetMS=2.4
fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=2.4
iMinMemoryPageSize=256
iMaxMemoryPageSize=1024
iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=307200

Note: If any of those items already existed in your file, you'll want to update the numbers to match the above instead of adding extra copies of those same items.

The above settings double the amount of memory and time allotted for scripts to run in your game. If you find that these numbers make your situation worse, you can delete the lines or reduce the numbers to something slightly less than double and try again.

i am slowly and carefully following BIRAITBEC's load order and modlist.
i had a break for lunch but got straight back to it.
i'm installing the texture repacks atm.
when I ran the nvdia inspector the results were very depressing.
it seems my pc is low end haha

it’s not so much low end, but even I skip a lot of textures and enbs in favor of performance.

things became stressful for a minute. i was copying the main pack part 1 texture folder to the patchedfiles folder and I got the " not enough space " warning. i have hitched up my old 2tb external sata and now I am good to go. how my life has changed. that external drive used to be full of " sapphic art " hehe
