A New plot idea. It's about time.

It's not only a clever title, it's the subject at hand.

We know there is an in game calendar that the game and certain NPC react to. Like how Diamond City all decide to put Christmas decorations out the morning of the 25th and take them off by the next morning which might be the 2nd most unrealistic thing in the fallout universe.

Could a plot search for that information and give back an answer? Could someone make a literal calendar plot? I'm not asking anyone to make a plot that is a giant calendar turning pages daily (although if it makes you happy, go nuts!) I'm asking if it's possible. If a plot could use that information and update itself.

Outside of being a potential mildly weird interesting plot, I'm thinking could a plot have a decoration that changes every month? Could a menu change with the seasons?

I don't have a computer to even start trying to mod but I thought this could be an interesting discussion to have.

Not a ding-a-ling kind of thing. :jester

"darn @Irealys that is a clever idea?" :umnik2

:happy clock and calendars "I like it" :this

I like this, it could be pretty cool. For now it will be on my "dream plot idea" list since I think I need considerably more skills in scripting for this.

Likely possible but requiring advanced scripting and will probably require significant testing. A script will have to manage time tracking and possibly another to then make changes. Probably it'd have to be several scripts, time script that sets some globals on set time intervals and another that handles changing stuff on the plot. The easiest way would be just having required globals on the spawned items and not having highly granular changes. If however you wanted stuff like "12 Days of Christmas", rotating holiday sets like for Halloween, Easter, etc that could get much more complicated. Form Lists can help a lot but wouldn't necessarily give you "12 Days of Christmas" in a predetermined manner. There'd be some concerns like "What happens if there are a very large number of possibilities with the spawned items".

:crazy yeah but what came 1st the tock or the tick?

Clock in a plot cud prolyl be done but tahts above my pay grade ;)
It can be done but will require some fairly tricky nif based animations. Would have to extrapolate a fair bit beyond the "animated objects(moving objects/conveyor belts)" PDF. I don't know if rotating objects were brought up in that? The oil well could be a study case for it.

You might be able to do it without any dark nif magic. But that would involve spawning the arrows as separate objects with their own scripts, which then change their angle depending on the time.

Just a thought and please tell me I'm out of my head, let alone the modding league. But how about a sundial?

I am confused.

I have a mod that has clocks that show the in game time and they have arms ”hands”. I’ll double check that tonight, and post a screenshot if I am correct.
I am pretty sure I am.

I am not asking anyone to do this, I just really liked the suggestion. :bye

hahahaha! :crazy

SOE, Settlement Objects Expansion Pack, has "in-game-time" clocks. :declare Very handy.

Anyway @Irealys great idea and suggestion. I'll have fun making a clock tower at the entrance to Hangman's Alley!

Looks like there is a beth X-Box version also, so no need to be left out! :happy

My pleasure. Have fun. And I like that idea of a plot that acts in a timer for just how wide the potential is. If someone ends up figuring it out, there are two ideas I had that exemplify that. A bar that plays the jukebox on the weekends. A firework show on Saturday nights. It could be as subtle or in your face as modders want to. And I’m hoping someone will figure it out because I’m curious how crazy some of the community ideas could get.

+1
thanks for the port
