Hi there. I played F4 for 2 years, last time seriously in 2017 and decided I was overdue for a replay. Then I discovered Sim Settlements. Wow am I impressed if it works (I assume so). :) Anyway I've started watching the videos, will be using the City Planner feature and here is my first question.

I'm in Sanctuary, I created the CP desk placed it in the middle of the street, assigned Codsworth as City Planner, did the fly around the city thing, and when I landed the City Planer desk is missing. I remember it was mentioned that this desk would probably move. I've looked through some houses and have yet to find it. So I thought I'd ask. I have a bunch of scrap I connected that I want to donate.
Any pointers? Thanks!
I'm sure more questions will be forth coming. :D

Update: Ok, found it in one of the houses! :)

Welcome, Scavver!

City Manager 2078 Holotape- Main Menu>Tools>Tracking Options

You should be able to turn on track the CP desk. Then it should put a tracking quest in your quest journal and a quest marker on the desk and compass to help you find it.

Good luck and have fun.

Oh, I'll likely get beat up over saying this. :crazy

I would not use a city plan in Abernathy, RR or Sanctuary. At least to start. One of them is probably ok but I would want to know how it affects my system before going hog-wild. :bye

But, if it did I would use Uituit's Sanctuary
Sim Settlements - City Plan -Sanctuary-Junk Town

This is newb advice, once you get familiar with it, take it for a ride :happy

Question 2- When I originally played, I did all of the building. Now that I am using a City planner, if I donate items to the City Planner Desk, do I lose them or are they still available in the workshop?
I'm assuming that if I donate junk, it will be broken down into rough materials for the auto building of the town.
I remember some things were hard to get hold of when I played last time, so I'm thinking I need to be careful what I donate to the town, incase I need them for crafting.
Thoughts?

Question 3- I watched the intro and it said that there were 4 towns not covered by the City Planner System, Starlight Drive in, some Island, Concord, Boston Airport, and Citadel? Were those towns later covered in later releases?
Thanks.

Q2, donated at the desk goes to them. Now salvage beacons is different and that has the option to go into the workbench for yourself or them as a donation.

Q3. I am not sure we are tracking here but there are some locations where they don't recommend using city plans at the start "due to quests and the like" but I think you might be able to select at least a couple of them anyway. I don't recommend that. The island is "Spectacle Island" I don't ever use city plans in those so can't say if they are in there or not? Sorry.

Thanks. I've already seen where quests in sanitary like make some beds, provide water, and some defense would interfere with city planning, but I just went ahead and provided those things, for quest credit, not worrying if they are later dismantled by the residents. I'm going by what the video said, but I'm hoping that if I put beds in a house, that if they interfere with the city plan, that the residents will just remove or move those bed to a better place?

It seems like the most important stuff I gather, I junk to get it into the workshop, a lot of steel and wood, ceramic, etc. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be donated, to the City Planner. How do you do that? I need to see if the raw materials can be pulled out of the workshop.

Question 4: Is the City Planning software designed to push the settlement to it's largest citizen cap?

Question 5: I thought I saw something that said that after a settlement reaches stage 3, that the leader, if they are a companion you want to have accompany you, can be removed and then what? Will the settlement continue to develop or is that the final phase and no more development is needed?
To be honest in my first play through, while I enjoyed building and developing settlements, I was not impressed by my results. I've always had a beef with Bethesda about forcing us to build junk yard settlements. I mean, we have turrets, complicated machinery, a frick'n teleporter, and we can't build a decent looking house without relying on mods??

This is an easy decision to see if SS City Planning can come up with something more pleasing. I could then retire the city planner and make changes as needed.

@Huntn though I love that you are back and really enjoy your many questions I believe that much of the fun is playing in order to answer many of those questions. I respect that - that may not be your play style but In a like gesture please understand why I tap out on answering them.

Maybe someone else will take a turn. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t stumble before you even got started :crazy

We’ll always be here to help if you really get stuck or break it. :bye

No problem, only reply if you enjoy replying. :)

Here is my perspective, last time I played all the way to the end, including 3 DLCs and did it all myself. There are no real secrets. This time I'm entrusting a City Planner to handle Settlement development and I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel. The planner is there, I'll use it, but am just trying to project ahead such as what is really needed for the settlement to be developed versus me needing material for personal needs. The fact that the settlement will eventually collect everything it needs via the City Planner, at least according to the video, makes me want to horde everything I pick up for myself. :D

I think part of the spoilers @RayBo is referring to are inside Sim Settlements mod itself - there are some good ones too. I am always going wow when I trip across a new one.
I don't think this is spoiler material here, but a single component i.e. 1 bone is equivalent to an entire object i.e. desk fan I believe so you may want to break things down with the manufacturing scrap machine prior to donating.
I think some of your other questions might be answered or at least hinted at if you look through the settings for Sim Settlements. The MCM (if installed - and accessed through the pause menu) is so much easier for me to use than the holotape.
I hope that helps!
Edit: (And I would be willing to bet that if you have not played SS for a few versions that you are indeed up for some surprises! I hope that is the case!)

Question 6: Regarding RoTC, setting up the City Planner I did see a setting about what kind of settlement did I want, and I chose "random". Is this a good general setting or are there some gotchas or circumstances where you need or want to have a particular type settlement for a certain location?

Question 7: I have both RoTC and SS Three in One Mod installed. Is RoTC stand alone or do I need the Sim Settlements mod also?

Questopm 8: Does the mod author take donations other than subscriptions? All I saw were subscriptions offered, but I might have missed the vanilla donation.

On my first play though when the game was new, I did everything myself. This time will be the first time that I've used SS, and have decided to go with RoTC/City Planner. I started it up for Sanctuary and it seems to be making progress. Thanks!

6) random means that plots are chosen at, well, random - and designer's choice means that plots are filled with specific buildings chosen when the foundation level was made. They will always be those exact plots.
7) Yes, with the 3-in-1 you will want to remove the individual ROTC.
8) He has a patreon page https://www.patreon.com/kinggath/overview
Straight donations can be made on the main page of the mod here at Nexus:

If you have never run SS then you are certainly in for some fun. It is #1 in my must have mods.

I assume all of the predesigned settlement plans are balanced. I think this is worth a donation! :)
I've noticed that you will accumulate settlements faster than companions to run them, so I currently have Santuary with a City Planner, and for now I am developing Abernathy Farm myself, I'll experiment with laying out SS plots in one of my developments possibly there. My understanding is that what ever development you do with a settlement, that if you engage the City Planner that will all be removed?

I'm wondering if it reassigns settlers, I assume it does, but I'm wondering about Trade Routes? In Santuary which is being run by a City Planner, I just grabbed a settler and set up a trade route with Abernathy Farm. Will the City Planner change that?
Thanks! :)

Question 9: Regarding the relationship of SS to RotC, I'm finding in the game that it takes me a while to accumulate a group of friendly companions to assign to RotC Settlements as City Planners. So to get a settlement going, if you set up several SS building plots, when you finally get around to assigning a City Planner and starting RotC, I assume that those SS plots will be dismantled? It's not an issue for me, I just want to be sure I understand what will happen. Thanks!

Just a note that you can turn off the feature requiring a leader for a city plan - I don't remember if that is a global setting only or one of the group of local settings.

Yes, if the City Planner is turned off, building development stops. But I'm thinking that if you start with vanilla Sim Settlements and develop a couple of plots, and then plop down a City Planner desk and engage RotC, it will tear down everything there, but I'm not certain.

One thing I discovered regarding the city plan, is that I placed some personal items in a filing cabinet, no problem at first, but later in development when I came back to the settlement, development seemed to have reversed itself, structures that had been there, were less built than when I left previously. I just happened to go to that file cabinet and pull everything out to move it to Home Plate, and as soon as I did (empty it), all the building came back to it's previous state, so I assume that storing stuff in anywhere but the workshop is not a completely safe thing to do.

City Leader requirement and City Plan are two different items. You can turn off the setting requiring a leader and still use a city plan.

And oh boy yeah I have had some really interesting things happen when using city plans and building my own bits only to have the city upgrade - haha - right over or through what I put in.
I definitely would not place any containers in a plot but I do use personal storage - usually a room I put together with crafting and what not in it. Working around what the settlers build is part of the fun though especially since some of the city plans do things I never would have thought of.
